POSITION DESCRIPTION:

CLINICAL STAFF NURSE FOR OR PAIN CENTER

RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains established standards of care, policies, goals, and objectives in administering professional nursing care to all Pain Center patients presenting to The Surgery Center of Huntsville.

SUPERVISED BY: Clinical Coordinator of OR Pain Center and Director of Nursing. Maintains a strong functional relationship with the Medical Director.

QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current Alabama license. Experience preferred in critical care or medical/surgical. Must maintain current BLS and ACLS certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be flexible in hours worked; must be able to endure long periods of standing and walking; may require bending and stooping, lifting, and transporting of patients; may be exposed to communicable diseases and minimal amounts of radiation. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: Must be familiar with the care and operation of all equipment required for accomplishing the goals and missions of the Surgery Center. Must demonstrate knowledge of and use of equipment, materials, and medications associated with all types of pain management procedures performed at the Surgery Center.

DUTIES: (Listing is only the essential functions of the job and is not intended in order of importance.)

  1. Responsible for the readiness of pain clinic for each patient, including equipment, supplies and medications.
  2. Assumes responsibility for total patient care for assigned patients, assists physician and other staff members in carrying out the established standards of patient care.
  3. Fosters appropriate public relations with patients, families and visitors who visit the Surgery Center of Huntsville.
  1. Promotes relationships with all areas in The Center by cooperating with their policies and procedures. Supports and implements the philosophy and objectives of The Surgery Center of Huntsville.
  2. Maintains communication with other personnel working in the Center so that an efficient working relationship is maintained at all times.
  3. Maintains up-to date knowledge of nursing methodology and legal aspects through independent study and in-service programs. Strives for self-improvement and serves as a role model for all members of the staff.
  4. Responsible for interpretation and execution of physician's orders.
  5. Seeks ways to improve quality of nursing care in the Center by:

a) continuous self-evaluation of the effectiveness of patient care. b) collaborating with the clinical coordinator and other staff members in evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care.

  1. Knowledgeable of the changes and/or addition to procedures and policies, implements accordingly
  2. Assumes responsibility for promoting a safe and clean work environment, such as:

a) reports equipment malfunction, maintenance needs and supply requests to clinical coordinator. b) responsible for knowledge of fire evacuation, disaster plans, OSHA and HIPAA regulations. c) implements appropriate safety precautions d) recognizes emergency situations and institutes established procedures for specific situations.

  1. Supports staff development program participates and teaches as requested.
  2. Accepts responsibility for making suggestions and sharing knowledge to promote efficient working conditions and quality patient care.
  3. Works productively to promote team efforts in cost awareness and containment, supply conservation, protection of physical plant and property, equipment; resupplies and stocks area to maintain a state of readiness.
  4. Remains flexible with all duties and able to move to any area or department and perform duties as assigned within the educational and work experience limitations.
  5. Realizes limits of professional capability and asks for assistance when necessary, remaining alert, calm, and courteous at all times.
  6. Safely transports patient to receiving unit. Follows appropriate handoff guidelines. Reports all pertinent information to receiving staff.
  7. Any additional duties that are expected to be performed as part of the job of clinical staff nurse for the OR Pain Center at the Surgery Center of Huntsville.
