What role you will play in our team
  • As the senior optimization engineer on our CCS team, you will shape the optimization foundation of a rapidly growing carbon capture and sequestration system on the U.S. Gulf Coast, influencing billions of dollars of infrastructure and operational decisions through advanced mathematical modeling.
  • As part of the Low Carbon Solutions business, you will work in a dynamic, startup-like environment that leverages ExxonMobil's scale, technical expertise, and resources to rapidly develop and deploy energy transition solutions.
  • This role extends beyond mathematical model development. You will work directly with business stakeholders to apply optimization tools to real-world decisions, deepen your understanding of the CCS value chain, and help develop software products that enable optimization capabilities across the organization.
What you will do
  • Build optimization models that support network expansion decisions, CO transportation planning, storage allocation, capital investment prioritization, and day-to-day operational decision making.
  • Design and build optimization diagnostics, validate model formulations and solution strategies, and continuously improve model performance, scalability, maintainability, and transparency.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the CCS business to apply optimization models to strategic and operational challenges, communicate recommendations, and incorporate business feedback into future model capabilities.
  • Collaborate with data scientists to develop, validate, and improve surrogate models representing complex or non-linear system behavior.
  • Collaborate with data and software engineers to integrate optimization models into robust, user-friendly tools that can be deployed and utilized across the CCS organization.
  •
