1st Shift Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm
Pay Rate: $23.00 - $27.00 per Hour
Duties and Responsibilities
We are currently seeking a Quality Technician to help us ensure that non-conforming products do not continue through the production process and are not distributed to customers. In this role, you will conduct routine quality inspections of raw materials and finished goods throughout production, including in-process and final inspections. During these inspections, Quick Problem-Solving, and Root Cause Analysis methods will be performed to support the manufacturing process and ensure delivery of quality material.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner and follows all Cornerstone Building Brands safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains an exemplary attendance record and reports to work on time.
  • Communicates effectively in English with operators, team members, supervisors, and support personnel.
  • Performs quality inspections of extruded PVC profiles throughout the production process to verify compliance with product specifications.
  • Conducts first-piece, in-process, startup, and final quality inspections according to work instructions, control plans, and quality standards.
  • Uses precision measuring equipment including tape measures, calipers, height gauges, profile gauges, wall thickness gauges, and other inspection tools to verify product dimensions.
  • Verifies profile dimensions, cut lengths, wall thickness, appearance, color consistency, gloss, and overall product quality.
  • Identifies and documents defects including but not limited to surface imperfections, contamination, burn marks, scratches, dents, dimensional variation, bow, twist, and color variation.
  • Ensures inspection frequencies are completed as required and documents all quality checks accurately.
  • Maintains product traceability by verifying labels, production information, lot numbers, line identification, and inspection records.
  • Approves or rejects product based on established quality standards and communicates nonconforming conditions immediately.
  • Works closely with Extrusion Operators to identify process deviations and recommends corrective actions to maintain product quality.
  • Places suspect or nonconforming material on hold and follows established containment procedures.
  • Completes required quality documentation, inspection reports, production records, and electronic data entry accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with startup approvals, product changeovers, color changes, and first article inspections.
  • Performs calibration verification of inspection equipment and reports damaged or out-of-calibration measuring devices.
  • Monitors compliance with customer specifications, engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality procedures.
  • Supports root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and improve product quality.
  • Reports quality, safety, equipment, or production concerns immediately to the Team Lead, Supervisor, Process Technician, or Engineering.
  • Works with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Performs 5S activities and housekeeping duties to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Assists other production lines or quality inspection areas as needed to support business requirements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to accurately use tape measures, calipers, profile gauges, height gauges, wall thickness gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensional specifications, quality standards, work instructions, and production documentation.
  • Ability to identify cosmetic and dimensional defects while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of basic mathematics including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and conversions.
  • Ability to convert fractions to decimals and accurately interpret dimensional tolerances.
  • Ability to document inspection results accurately using written forms and computerized systems.
  • Ability to make sound quality decisions regarding product acceptance or rejection.
  • Basic computer skills including data entry, barcode scanners, and production software.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and inspect product for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when handling product, samples, gauges, or inspection materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Operators, Team Leads, Supervisors, Maintenance, Engineering, and Production personnel.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple production lines and changing priorities.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing quality control, extrusion, plastics, window and door components, or related manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, SPC, or ISO quality systems is preferred.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to producing high-quality products.
