Job Summary
Administratively responsible to the County Extension Director and the Assistant County Extension Director, supports the Unit 6 mission, priorities, and initiatives by creating and designing educational, information, and promotional digital content and print materials, and contributing to plans to advance the unit's visibility within Cook County. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creates, develops, organizes, and disseminates innovative marketing materials for various channels, including writing and/or designing marketing communication materials for and across the Unit 6. Materials include, but are not limited to, newsletters, emails, blog posts, digital signage, brochures/flyers, social media graphics, web content, signage, and annual reports in compliance with the Extension MarCom state team.
  • Weekly marketing updates.
  • Define publicity goals, analyze metrics, and prepare regular, timely marketing campaign reports, including print, digital, and social performance metrics in cooperation with the Digital Strategy Coordinator; develop appropriate reporting mechanisms to facilitate easy and regular, actionable analysis of tactical performance.
  • Participate in and prepare marketing and communications training sessions for colleagues throughout the organization related to publicity and publication management.
  • Assists in researching, creating, and executing strategic marketing and communications plans for individual programs, while increasing their brand awareness, in alignment with unit marketing campaigns in compliance with the Extension MarCom state team.
  • Provides quality assurance on marketing materials, including copyediting and checking proofs during production stages, and reviews the quality of final products in compliance with the Extension MarCom state team.
  • Contributes, as part of a team, to the maintenance of the Unit's social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, and publishing in compliance with the Extension MarCom state team.
  • Tracks and analyzes the Unit 6 website and social media statistics for optimization; measures social media analytics; reports and recommends changes in social media strategy; and provides counsel to the Unit 6 educator teams.
  • Develops and manages databases for data collection, analysis, reports, and grants; oversees the collection of data for reporting purposes and prepares periodic reports; formulates, monitors, and regularly reports on the marketing budget; assists in writing grant proposals.
  • Helps with oversight of marketing-related equipment (camera, banners, tablecloths, and other promotional materials, etc.).
  • Comply with all University of Illinois Extension Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity policies and guidelines; assists Unit staff with data collection for Affirmative Action, Gender, and Targeted reports. โ€ข Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. Demonstrated experience writing and designing social media and/or website content.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in communications or marketing.
Experience with photography and videography.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of recruitment practices.
Knowledge of social media analytics, social media publishing tools, web analytics, and tracking technologies.
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
Knowledge of media production, including social media platforms and efficiency of use, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, presentation software, spreadsheet software, video creation and editing software, web page creation and editing software, and analytical or scientific software.
Skill in producing live social media coverage.
Skill in professional communication.
Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Skill in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding quickly and effectively to challenges.
Ability to develop and execute marketing and strategic communications plans to effect outcomes.
WorkSchedule, Travel or Other Job Expectations:
To performthe functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform workboth within an office and outside in the communities that are served and musthave the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timelyfashion. Employee is responsible for securing personaltransportation. Some work will be required during evenings and/orweekends.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. Salary is competitive and commensurate withqualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary for the position is $52,000.
