Extended Day Assistant information

What does an extended day assistant do?

An Extended Day Assistant works in before- and after-school programs to supervise and engage students outside of regular classroom hours. Their duties typically include helping with homework, organizing activities, ensuring student safety, and providing support to lead teachers or program coordinators. They play a key role in creating a positive, structured environment where children can learn, play, and interact with peers until they are picked up by parents or guardians.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an extended day assistant?

To thrive as an Extended Day Assistant, you need experience working with children, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with childcare management software and safety protocols is commonly required.
