Your Valued Contributions:
The Pharmacy Support Staff - Level 2 supports the mission of Alcona Health Center by providing high-quality pharmacy services under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist while promoting safe, efficient, and patient-centered medication access. The technician performs technical and administrative pharmacy functions, including prescription processing, medication preparation, inventory management, insurance claim resolution, and customer service. Additionally, the technician provides operational support for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) 340B Drug Pricing Program by assisting with patient eligibility determinations, split-billing operations, inventory management, compliance monitoring, reporting, and audit readiness. Through collaboration with pharmacists, providers, clinical staff, and external partners, this position helps ensure regulatory compliance, optimize 340B program performance, improve medication affordability, and expand access to care for the medically underserved populations served by Alcona Health Center.
  1. Serves patients at the pharmacy:
    1. Enters patient profile information and maintains accuracy of information in the database, generating reports when needed.
    2. Enters prescription information data from physician medication orders.
    3. Processes patient requests for refills.
    4. Provide patients with educational information regarding their prescription.
    5. Determines if patient/prescription is 340B eligible.
    6. Delivers quality customer service to patients, responding to inquiries, questions, or requests, and referring them to the pharmacist for medical information.
  2. Assists the pharmacist with filling prescriptions
    1. Obtains medication from inventory.
    2. Repackages and labels medication for patients.
    3. Dispenses medications as directed by providers and/or MSS.
    4. Transfers prescriptions to and from other pharmacies.
  3. Provides administrative support to the pharmacy function
    1. Maintains an inventory of stock levels, clearing expired, damaged, and recalled medications as appropriate.
    2. Orders medications from wholesalers and verifies received orders.
    3. Bills third-party insurance providers and troubleshoots rejected claims.
    4. Answers telephone in a polite and timely manner and ensure accurate information is exchanged and patient is satisfied. Directs calls to appropriate pharmacy staff.
    5. Processes incoming mail.
    6. Performs clerical tasks, such as filing invoices, reports and other documents as assigned, operating cash register, bagging medications. Ensures invoices are forwarded to the Finance Department.
  4. Assists in the maintenance of the pharmacy:
    1. Balances cash register drawer and prepares daily deposit.
    2. Receives and stores incoming supplies; check in and stock medication orders.
    3. Counts stock and maintains electronic inventory records.
    4. Cleans equipment.

5. Maintains all documentation, including the medication pricing reports, refill worksheets, and patient files, and provides reports to appropriate parties, including the Pharmacy Operations Manager.
Required Training & Experience:
  • Possesses a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR.
  • Possesses a current license as a Licensed Pharmacy Technician.
  • Possesses a current State of Michigan driver's license and valid automobile insurance.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Effectively use the pharmacy software system.
