Would you like to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an exciting opportunity for you! Our people division is growing, and we are looking for an Drill & Blast Subject Matter Expert with our Goldrush Underground Operations department.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership in and accountability for maintaining safe work practices, safe workplaces, and safe operation and maintenance of all equipment 
  • Mentor, coach, and develop underground mining personnel in safe and efficient drill and blast practices 
  • Provide hands-on training and field leadership in stope drilling, stope loading, face drilling, face round loading, and blasting activities 
  • Evaluate operator performance and provide constructive feedback to improve safety, productivity, drill accuracy, fragmentation, and blast results 
  • Promote adherence to company safety standards, procedures, and operational best practices related to explosives handling and blasting operations 
  • Lead by example in hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and proactive safety engagement 
  • Train and support crews in proper drilling patterns, burden and spacing control, charging techniques, tie-ins, and blast sequencing 
  • Assist in optimizing drilling and blasting practices to minimize dilution, over-break, and rework while maximizing advance and fragmentation 
  • Able to safely handle, transport, and load explosives in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements 
  • Able to perform safe and effective face round loading and blasting activities 
  • Able to perform safe and effective stope loading and blasting activities 
  • Able to troubleshoot drilling and blasting issues and recommend corrective actions 
  • Able to understand and interpret drill plans, blast designs, and mining layouts  
  • Able to perform basic care, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of drill and blast equipment 
  • Able to maintain and troubleshoot emulsion pumps and related charging equipment  
  • Support onboarding and skills advancement of miners through practical demonstrations and field instruction 
  • Maintain accurate training documentation and communicate progress and development needs to leadership 
  • Assist supervisors and crews in identifying continuous improvement opportunities related to drill and blast performance 
  • Perform other duties as assigned from time to time at the discretion of the company 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of underground mining experience preferred 
  • Extensive experience in underground drill and blast operations required 
  • Previous experience with stope drilling, production blasting, and development blasting required 
  • Previous mentoring, coaching, or crew leadership experience preferred 
  • Strong understanding of explosives handling, blast design principles, and underground blasting safety standards required 
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting underground drill and blast equipment preferred 
  • Experience with emulsion systems, charging equipment, and emulsion pump maintenance preferred 
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment required 
  • Stable, consistent work history required 
  • Proactive safety and environmental track record required 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all mine operations personnel required 
  • Ability to deliver constructive feedback and hands-on instruction in a professional manner required 
  • Ability to work within a team environment, work closely with peers at all levels with a professional attitude required 
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills preferred 
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of this job required
