Job description

Job Summary

The Linux System Administrator (Intermediate-Level) is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, securing, and supporting enterprise Linux-based systems and infrastructure. The role focuses on system availability, performance, cybersecurity compliance, vulnerability remediation, automation, backups, disaster recovery, virtualization, and infrastructure modernization within a secure enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security.
  • Identify and resolve system issues to maintain operational readiness.
  • Install, configure, patch, and upgrade Linux operating systems, applications, and services.
  • Harden Linux systems according to DoD STIGs and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access controls.
  • Configure and maintain DNS, DHCP, NTP, LDAP, SSH, web services, and file-sharing services.
  • Troubleshoot complex system, application, network, and performance issues.
  • Analyze security scan results and perform vulnerability remediation.
  • Develop automation solutions using Bash, Ansible, and configuration-management tools.
  • Perform system backups, disaster recovery, and continuity-of-operations activities.
  • Support virtualization and cloud infrastructure, including VMware and Red Hat Virtualization.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, networking, and engineering teams.
  • Maintain compliance with DoD, Army, and organizational security requirements.
  • Support infrastructure modernization, technology testing, and system improvements.
  • Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and after-action reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior administrators and support personnel.
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance.
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II certification, such as Security+ CE, SSCP, GSEC, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant IT experience with hands-on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or derivative distributions.
  • Experience writing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Bash scripts.
  • Experience installing, configuring, patching, and maintaining Linux operating systems and enterprise services.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux operating systems, applications, and performance issues.
  • Knowledge of Linux user accounts, permissions, file systems, processes, and system logging.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical procedures and system diagrams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
