What is experience design?

Experience design is a multidisciplinary approach focused on creating meaningful and relevant experiences for users when they interact with a product, service, or system. It involves understanding user needs, behaviors, and emotions to design seamless, enjoyable, and effective touchpoints across digital and physical environments. Experience designers use research, prototyping, and testing to ensure that every aspect of the user journey is thoughtful and user-centered, ultimately enhancing satisfaction and engagement.

How does an experience design professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

Experience Design professionals often work closely with product managers, developers, marketers, and researchers throughout a project’s lifecycle. They facilitate workshops, gather stakeholder input, and ensure user needs remain central to the design process. Effective collaboration involves frequent communication, iterative feedback sessions, and clear documentation to align everyone toward a shared vision. This collaborative structure helps create cohesive, user-centric products that meet both business and user goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an experience designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Experience Designer, you need a strong grasp of user-centered design principles, visual design, prototyping, and a relevant degree in design or a related field. Proficiency with tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and usability testing platforms is commonly required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and creative problem-solving skills help set standout Experience Designers apart. These skills are crucial for creating engaging, effective user experiences that meet business goals and delight end users.

What is the difference between Experience Design vs User Experience Designer?

Experience Design encompasses creating comprehensive, multi-channel experiences, often involving branding and service elements. User Experience Designer focuses specifically on digital interfaces and usability. While both roles require design skills and user research, Experience Design has a broader scope, integrating physical and digital touchpoints, whereas User Experience Designers primarily optimize digital products.

How to get into experience design?

To enter experience design, develop skills in user research, interaction design, and prototyping using tools like Adobe XD or Figma. Building a strong portfolio that demonstrates your ability to create user-centered solutions and gaining experience through internships or freelance projects can help you break into the field.

What does an experience designer do?

An experience designer creates and improves user experiences for digital or physical products by understanding user needs and behaviors. They use research, design tools, and prototyping to develop intuitive interfaces and interactions that enhance user satisfaction and engagement.

About the Role

We are seeking a talented UI/UX Designer to create intuitive, user-centered experiences for modern digital products and applications. You will work closely with product managers, engineers, developers, and other stakeholders to transform complex business workflows and requirements into simple, accessible, and visually compelling user experiences.

The ideal candidate has a strong eye for visual design, excellent Figma skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Experience designing AI-driven products, chat interfaces, agent workflows, data visualizations, or LLM-powered applications is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end UI/UX design process, from concepts and wireframes through prototypes, high-fidelity designs, and implementation.
  • Create intuitive and visually engaging interfaces that simplify complex workflows and improve usability.
  • Develop and maintain scalable design systems, Figma components, and component libraries to ensure consistency across products.
  • Partner with product managers, developers, engineers, and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into effective design solutions.
  • Conduct and incorporate user research, usability testing, design reviews, and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve the user experience.
  • Design experiences for emerging technologies, including AI-powered applications, chat interfaces, AI agents, workflow automation, and data/model visualizations.
  • Apply UX best practices, including information architecture, interaction design, responsive design, accessibility, and usability principles.
  • Ensure designs align with established brand standards, accessibility requirements, and design-system guidelines.
  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality designs within tight timelines.
  • Collaborate with development teams during implementation to ensure the final product accurately reflects the intended user experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, product design, interaction design, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of visual design experience, including typography, layout, visual hierarchy, and interaction design.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, including components, auto-layout, prototyping, and design systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex workflows and requirements into clear, intuitive user interfaces.
  • Ability to design effectively in ambiguous or emerging product environments.
  • Strong collaboration skills with product, engineering, development, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet quick turnaround requirements.
  • Understanding of AI-driven product experiences, such as chat interfaces, agent workflows, prompt interactions, and data visualization.
  • Strong understanding of UX fundamentals, including:
    • Information architecture
    • Interaction patterns
    • Accessibility
    • Responsive design
    • User-centered design
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI/ML tools, LLM-powered products, generative AI applications, or workflow automation platforms.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing and translating findings into design decisions.
  • Experience with service design, customer journey mapping, personas, workflows, and experience mapping.
  • Experience synthesizing customer insights into actionable design requirements and deliverables.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, or modern component libraries.
  • Experience working on government or enterprise applications is a plus.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a designer who can balance creativity with usability and business objectives. You should be comfortable taking complex problems, asking the right questions, and turning them into simple, elegant experiences.

If you are passionate about creating exceptional digital experiences and excited about the opportunity to design the next generation of AI-powered products, we would love to hear from you.
