The Opportunity
As the Vice President of Engineering, you will work in collaboration with Teal’s CEO and VP of Product to lead the engineering teams, playing a critical role in the overall direction and execution of the company's research and development strategy. You will manage day-to-day engineering operations and work closely with the leadership team and stakeholders to define and execute the engineering roadmap.
This role has significant leadership accountability and must have the ability to understand the company’s short- and long-term product strategy and drive engineering deliverables. This role will also work closely with the executive team, as well as product and engineering leaders. The ideal candidate will have a strong Java/Spring engineering background and deep expertise in Physical AI, telecommunications, eSIM, or IoT space. Our team is distributed in various time zones so off-hour work may be required. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Oversee engineering team, providing technical direction to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality network products and services.
  • Participate in the evolution of technology and engineering strategy, and contribute to the overall direction of the company.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, sales, operations, and marketing to define and execute the company's product roadmap.
  • Recruit top talent to join the engineering team and create a positive, productive, and engaging work environment for the team.
  • Own cross-team collaboration and ensure seamless integration of engineering work with other company areas.
  • Maintain a hands-on engineering approach to provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to the team.
  • Own the end-to-end deployment of the product: full ownership of CI/CD pipelines, release management, infrastructure, network integrations, and DevOps practices. The Engineering team is responsible for shipping the product to production.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
  • Strong domain knowledge in network engineering, device authentication (SIM/eSIM), mobile core functionality, and the Internet of Things (IoT)/telecommunications industry.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Expert knowledge of Java and Spring framework, with the ability to guide architectural decisions and mentor engineers on large-scale codebases.
  • Working experience with MongoDB, MySQL, and AWS is highly preferred.
  • Enthusiasm about promoting high quality standards across documentation, unit testing, code reviews, test automation, and CI/CD.
  • Proven experience owning product deployment pipelines end-to-end, including CI/CD, infrastructure management, and release engineering.
  • A successful candidate must have previous early-stage product experience and has held a similar position in a Series B, or C and later stage private company.
  • Experience in building and launching complex software systems.
  • Have a passion for continuous improvement; have built learning organizations that keep up with industry innovations
  • Be responsible for delivering products that delight customers while managing the health of the code base through continuous refactoring and management of technical debt
  • Obsess over great user experiences and will be a partner to product management and engineering, sales, operations, and other parts of the business
  • Proven experience in managing engineering teams and delivering high-quality products and services.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and work with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience leading teams that have adopted AI-assisted development tooling is a plus.
