Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent leadership, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Supervision: SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Vice President for College Advancement and Community RelationsSUPERVISION GIVEN: Directly supervises full-time staff and provides direction and oversight to part-time staff, contract/supplemental employees, work study students, and volunteers as needed.
Job Function
Provides strategic, administrative, programming, operational, and financial leadership for the College's cultural affairs and community engagement enterprise, including national touring performances, College and community cultural events, K-12 and lifelong learning programs, exhibit programming, internal and external events, and facility rentals. Establishes and advances partnerships and collaborations with major cultural, educational, civic, and community organizations to increase the College's regional visibility and community impact. Directs the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, including a 1,262-seat proscenium theatre and Stage 2/black box theatre, as well as the Albert L. Lorenzo Cultural Center and related exhibit/gallery functions. Works collaboratively in the implementation of strategies and activities that complement the College's fundraising efforts, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, in-kind gifts, and fundraising events.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides strategic leadership, artistic direction, programming oversight, and operational control, in a manner consistent with applicable policies and procedures, for the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, the Albert L. Lorenzo Cultural Center, and the Macomb Organization for Retiree Enrichment.
  • Develops, curates, and manages a professional touring season and related presenting activities, including negotiation of performance agreements and contracts with artists, agents, managers, promoters, and rental clients.
  • Oversees development and implementation of marketing, sales, promotional, and audience development strategies for Performing Arts, Cultural Center, education, exhibit, and community engagement activities.
  • Recommends, develops, and implements approved operational policies, procedures, and service standards for assigned venues, programs, events, and rentals.
  • Provides oversight of ticketing and box office operations, in conjunction with the College's Business Office, including pricing strategy, sales performance, patron service, and event settlement coordination.
  • Works collaboratively with College faculty, staff, school districts, and community partners to develop cultural, educational, and enrichment programs that support the College's mission.
  • Determines staffing levels and duties and selects, supervises, and evaluates full-time employees; provides direction and oversight for the selection, supervision, and evaluation of part-time employees, work study students, volunteers, and contract/supplemental staff in accordance with College policies and labor agreements
  • Assists the Vice President for College Advancement and Community Relations and the MCC Foundation in developing alternative revenue sources, including identification, cultivation, stewardship, and prospecting of donors and sponsors to support annual and major gifts, sponsorships, grants, and in-kind gifts.
  • In cooperation with the MCC Foundation, designs and implements donor-centered and sponsor-centered events, stewardship activities, and relationship-building opportunities.
  • Actively pursues and develops collaborative opportunities with regional and national arts, cultural, educational, and community institutions, including but not limited to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Historical Society, Michigan Opera Theatre, and comparable organizations.
  • Prepares, monitors, and manages applicable operating and project budgets, including those for the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, the Albert L. Lorenzo Cultural Center, the Macomb Organization for Retiree Enrichment, and related programs, rentals, and events.
  • Prepares and reviews relevant reports and data concerning attendance, utilization, revenue, expense, sales projections, rentals, donor and sponsor activity, equipment, and operations; uses data to inform decision making and planning.
  • Assists in the development of systems, procedures, and long-range plans involving maintenance, repair, capital replacement, and improvement of facilities, technical systems, and equipment.
  • Monitors public safety, event readiness, security, risk management, accessibility, and maintenance needs in conjunction with appropriate College departments.
  • Represents the College at local, state, and national professional meetings and associations and may serve on related committees and boards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's degree preferred.
Qualifications
Seven years of progressively responsible experience in arts administration, performing arts center management, cultural affairs, entertainment presenting, venue operations, or a closely related field, including responsibility for oversight of comparable venues, programs, budgets, and staff. Demonstrated experience in season planning or presenter activity; business management in marketing, promotion, finance, and human resources; team leadership; collaboration with community cultural partners; and event planning. Experience with fundraising, sponsorship development, grant activity, and donor relations is preferred
