Job description

Physical Therapist Assistant

Physical Therapist Assistants work under the guidance of certified Physical Therapists to provide supportive patient care to people recovering from illnesses and injuries. They talk to the Physical Therapist about each patients condition and what treatments they will assist with during their session. They are responsible for staging the treatment area with the appropriate exercise equipment and adaptive tools for each session, sanitizing the area, removing potential hazards and making sure there is enough space to complete the treatment. These tasks will be performed in Skilled Nursing setting.

Duties will include:

  • Helping patients stretch and exercise specific muscle groups.
  • Reading instructions from the physical therapist.
  • Working directly with the physical therapist to assist patients.
  • Speaking with families to find the best at-home techniques.
  • Keeping the physical therapy area clean and organized.
  • Moving patients from wheelchairs or walkers to the therapy area.
  • Completing administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and filing paperwork.
