Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Program/Senior Program Director, the Group ExerciseInstructor will be responsible for leading classes and giving general fitness and health education information to participants.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

(Conditions of employment will vary depending upon which Track you are on when hired)

1.Track 1:Current, Accepted Group Exercise Certification
Track 2:No Current Group Exercise Certification

2.Track 3:No Current Group Exercise Yoga/Pilates Certification

3.Minimum age of 18

4.Must have completed entry-level instructor training

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Group Exercise Coordinator/Wellness Director, the Group Exercise

Instructor I will be responsible for leading classes and giving general fitness and health education information to participants.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. Current group exercise certification
  3. Must have passed entry-level instructor training

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to use weight and frequently perform the following physical activities; jump, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, hear and have visual acuity to perform detailed tasks
  2. Must have ability to motivate people and communicate effectively; both orally and in writing
  3. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills and have ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  4. Must be detail oriented and exhibit a high degree of accuracy and alertness
  5. Must demonstrate initiative in absence of supervision
  6. Must be able to build meaningful relationships and relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  7. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
  8. Must possess ability to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality
  9. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Complete CPR/AED, FA, Oxygen, YUSA Online Trainings, Foundations of Group Exercise or ACE, AFAA, Yoga
  4. Alliance Certification, in accordance with Conditions of Employment
  5. Possess a clear and complete understanding of the general principles of health education and be familiar with basic concepts of fitness and exercise
  6. Must learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch
  7. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  8. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including evenings and weekends

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Fulfilling confirmed seasonal teaching schedule or finding substitutes for the remaining schedule if the need arises.
  2. Responsible for consistently maintaining class attendance above 8 to remain on the schedule.
  3. Beginning and ending classes on time; being available to answer participant questions as needed.
  4. Responsible for organization and clean-up of studio equipment; reporting any facility or equipment irregularities, unsafe conditions or feedback to supervisor verbally and in writing.
  5. Responsible for staying current with trends in the field/industry by attending outside/inside trainings; developing a base of information that is current in particular discipline from which participant's questions can be answered and specific information given out as requested.
  6. Responsible for maintaining required number of CEC's to keep certifications current; required expired certifications will result in being pulled from the schedule until it is current.
  7. Notifying your supervisor 24-hours in advance of any expected absenteeism and finding subs in as far in advance as possible.
  8. Being able to substitute classes for other instructors when needed.
  9. Contacting Group Exercise Coordinator/Fitness Director/Wellness Director and/or Manager on Duty if there are problems arising; no matter what the circumstance, instructors are not permitted to cancel class.
  10. Responsible for becoming familiar with other family YMCA programs, membership policies, and general information.
  11. Responsible for attending staff meetings; understanding that missing two in a row may result in disciplinary action.
  12. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
  13. Other Duties assigned.
