Job Overview:

The Database Section Lead (DBL) is responsible for the design, development, maintenance, integrity, and performance of Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC) and Warfighter's Simulation (WARSIM) databases supporting Command Post Exercises (CPXs) and other military training events. The DBL leads a team of database analysts to ensure simulation databases are accurate, reliable, and available throughout the exercise lifecycle. This position plays a critical role in enabling realistic, data-driven training for senior military leaders and their staffs through effective database management, technical leadership, and collaboration with multidisciplinary simulation support teams.


Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a team of JLCCTC and WARSIM Database Analysts supporting military training simulations.
  • Coordinate database team activities to ensure timely preparation, integration, and execution of simulation support during Command Post Exercises (CPXs) and other training events.
  • Develop and maintain team schedules to ensure personnel availability for mission-essential tasks.
  • Design, develop, and implement new simulation databases using industry and military best practices.
  • Lead database architecture efforts, including the creation and maintenance of database tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, and other database objects.
  • Ensure data integrity through proper database design, validation, security controls, and enforcement of data standards and policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strategies for data storage, backup, recovery, and long-term preservation.
  • Execute and oversee the extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), and insertion of data supporting military simulation systems.
  • Administer, modify, maintain, and update JLCCTC and WARSIM databases throughout all phases of military training exercises.
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement tuning strategies to maximize system efficiency and availability.
  • Analyze database performance metrics and recommend improvements to optimize storage, scalability, and processing capabilities.
  • Provide technical support to exercise planners, training analysts, and simulation operators by ensuring required data is available and accurately represented.
  • Collaborate with parametric, unit, and terrain database technicians to ensure interoperability and accurate simulation modeling.
  • Coordinate with government personnel and contractor teammates to resolve database issues affecting exercise execution.
  • Maintain documentation related to database architecture, procedures, configuration management, and operational processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable security policies, configuration management requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of mission requirements.

Requirements:

Minimum and Preferred Requirements/Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience creating new databases and leading a database team supporting military training simulations.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience ensuring data integrity through proper database design, validation, and enforcement of data restrictions.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining strategies for data storage, backup, and long-term data preservation.
  • Knowledge of database design methodologies and best practices supporting proper extraction and insertion of simulation data.
  • Experience managing, modifying, administering, and maintaining databases supporting military training simulations.
  • Experience monitoring database performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing performance improvements during training exercises and operational events.
  • Experience supporting Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC), Warfighter's Simulation (WARSIM), or comparable military simulation systems.
  • Experience and knowledge of Military Task Organization at the Division level or higher.
  • Thorough understanding of the interoperability of all Warfighting Functions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required system access and certifications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting Army Mission Command Training Program (MCTP), Mission Training Complex (MTC), or equivalent military simulation environments.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise database management systems.
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Familiarity with military constructive simulation architectures and distributed simulation environments.
  • Experience with configuration management tools and version control.
  • Experience developing technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Prior military service or direct support to Department of Defense training programs is highly desirable.

  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Travel Required: 33-50%
