Exercise Science Student information

What is an exercise science student?

Exercise Science Students are individuals enrolled in academic programs focused on the study of human movement, physical activity, and the physiological responses to exercise. They learn about topics such as anatomy, biomechanics, nutrition, and exercise physiology to understand how the body works during physical activity. These students often pursue careers in fitness training, rehabilitation, coaching, or further education in allied health fields like physical therapy or sports medicine.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an exercise science student, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Exercise Science Student, you need a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and foundational exercise principles, often supported by coursework in biology and chemistry. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, fitness assessment tools, and data analysis software is typically required. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills help you excel in collaborative projects and practical experiences. These competencies are crucial for academic success and for building a foundation for future roles in health, fitness, or clinical environments.

What types of hands-on experiences can an exercise science student expect during their studies?

As an Exercise Science student, you can expect to engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences, such as laboratory work, fitness assessments, and internships with athletic programs or healthcare facilities. These opportunities allow you to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios, develop technical skills like exercise testing, and interact with clients or athletes under professional supervision. Such practical experiences are crucial for building your resume, networking with industry professionals, and gaining insight into potential career paths within exercise science.

Most stretching methodologies try to wait out, overpower, trick, or ignore the stretch reflex. The proven way to increase performance and mobility is to work with the stretch reflex with the revolutionary techniques available through the Stretch Zone® Methodology (SZM). The SZM Practitioner identifies any postural and movement limitations, then tries to correct or mitigate them through specific applied stretching sessions. With a balanced system the customer will reach their true maximum potential, whether they are an professional athlete, weekend warrior, couch potato, or suffering from chronic pain or illness.
A career with Stretch Zone® means not just meeting and maintaining a level of excellence, but continually improving in skill, to further one's expertise and to advance the industry. As a minimum prerequisite to SZM we recommend a personal training certification in ACE, NASM, ACSM, NSCA or NCSF and/or a license in therapeutic massage or other accredited body work.
