POSITION SUMMARY:
As a member of the Villa Sport leadership team, the Group Exercise Director helps bring to life a high-performance culture that develops, empowers, and recognizes great employees and delivers five-star service, exceptional programs and an immaculately clean and safe club to members and guests. In decisions and actions, the Group Exercise Director is guided by Villa Sport's Values and Behaviors. The Group Exercise Director fully executes on all Villa Sport Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and takes ownership of the overall operational and financial performance of the Group Exercise Department. Though guided by the Office of the General Manager (OGM), the Group Exercise Director is expected to be self- motivated, self-reliant, organized, and able to handle concurrent projects, and assignments.
Experience teaching LES MILLS programming is strongly recommended for success in the role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Implement, promote, evaluate and participate in all group exercise programs, events and activities to meet member needs.
  • Support and execute Group Exercise vision, mission, values and goals.
  • Recommend and monitor Group Exercise schedule based on member demand in compliance with Villa Sport standard formats. Implement and monitor all standard operating procedures (SOPs), audit instructors and provide training as needed.
  • Implement assessment action plans for instructors.
  • Ensure group exercise classes start and end on time. Ensure all classes have proper instructor coverage.
  • Ensure a streamlined substitute process where instructors are motivated to assist other instructors.
  • Analyze weekly class participation, identify underperforming classes and recommend changes.
  • Follow through with the Group Exercise Attendance Policy process and communications.
  • Be an Ambassador for Group Exercise by encourage new participation and celebrating member engagement.
  • Plan and execute special events such as Les Mills Launches, Zumba parties, private Les Mills The Trip rentals, and other Villa Sport standard events, to delight members and introduce new members to Group Exercise.
  • Responsible for maintaining, inventorying equipment and sound systems.
  • Ensure cleanliness of group exercise studios.
  • Continual inspection of group exercise equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning (preventative maintenance).
  • Submit equipment requests and orders of maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain a minimum of five classes per week on the weekly class schedule in order to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Substitute for scheduled instructors when necessary to provide excellent customer service.
  • Compile and monitor Group Exercise payroll
  • Maintain the Villa Sport App accurately with instructor, format, and class schedule.
  • Audit and review Group Exercise portion of website for any errors or changes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Vast knowledge of present industry group fitness trends and successful programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of standard anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology.
  • Able to teach a variety of group fitness formats.
  • Understand and utilize fitness industry gold standards and benchmarks.
  • Strong background in the fitness industry and group exercise.
  • Minimum two years management/supervisory experience of athletic departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
  • Excellent training and coaching skills.
  • 4-year degree in Exercise Science or equivalent preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required prior to hire date.
  • Minimum of one LES MILLS certification plus one additional nationally recognized group exercise certification.
  • Excellent customer service skills, energetic, enthusiastic and motivational.
  • Able to take initiative and use good judgement in making suggestions and executing solutions to issues promptly and effectively.
  • Must be able to teach group exercise classes.
  • Bending, kneeling, and lifting of 15 lbs and occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, climbing and balancing.
