Strength and Conditioning Coach



The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development,

management, and strategic success of Westcliff University's comprehensive strength and conditioning program. Operating within the rules and regulations of the NAIA and the California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference / Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC), this full-time position designs, implements, and supervises individualized and team athletic performance programs for 16

sports based out of Irvine, CA. These programs include: Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Wrestling, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Volleyball, Women’s Flag Football, Stunt, Cheer, Surf, Baseball, and Softball. The position ensures that all training regimens maximize athletic potential, minimize the risk of injury,

and completely align with Westcliff University;s mission of academic, personal, and athletic excellence.



Essential Functions


Program Design and Implementation: Design and implement periodized strength, speed, power,

agility, flexibility, and conditioning programs for 16 diverse NAIA sports teams, customizing plans to

address specific demands ranging from field-based endurance to court-based power profiles and

beach environments.


Safety and Injury Prevention: Establish and maintain an environment focused on safety, proper

lifting mechanics, and functional athletic development to maximize performance while minimizing

training-related injuries.


Collaboration and Student-Athlete Wellness: Collaborate continuously with the Westcliff - Athletic

Training department to design and modify rehabilitation or injury-preventative protocols for injured

or recovering student-athletes.


Scheduling and Performance Facility Supervision: Schedule and supervise all team and individual

workout sessions in the university weight room and designated Irvine training facilities to ensure

optimal facility rotation, team safety, and standard operating procedures.


Testing and Evaluation: Conduct regular, sport-specific physical performance testing and data

tracking to evaluate student-athlete progress, reporting key metrics back to individual sport head

coaches to aid in tactical and physical evaluation.


Staff Supervision: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate any assistant strength coaches, graduate

assistants, or student interns assigned to the performance facility.


Compliance: Ensure full and strict compliance with NAIA regulations, conference rules, and

university department policies across all elements of athletic performance training.


Miscellaneous Athletic Operations: Perform diverse operational responsibilities as needed, serving as a Game Day Administrator/Supervisor to manage event protocols and crowd control, while actively overseeing athletic facility operations, maintenance requests, and equipment setups. Handles other projects and tasks as needed (i.e. driving university vehicles for travel/transportation of teams, student-athletes and/or coaches)


Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or a closely related field required.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) through the CSCCa required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Significant experience in designing and coaching strength and conditioning at the collegiate (NAIA/NCAA) or elite club level.
  • Strong leadership, structural communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to NAIA standards of character and sportsmanship.

Preferred qualifications for this position:

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related athletic field.
  • Previous experience managing a multi-sport weight room or coordinating game day event operations as a collegiate administrator or coach.
  • Demonstrated background adapting programming across specialized sport groups (e.g.,collision sports, endurance runners, overhead throwers, and outdoor board sports like Surf).
