Primary Purpose:

Instructors are responsible for designing, educating, and instructing a group of participants of all fitness levels in a variety of group exercise formats. Temporary employment is of limited duration, and under the terms of NSU's benefits plan and policies, not eligible for company benefits.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Instructors must possess current knowledge, certifications, and necessary specialized skills to provide a safe and effective group fitness class.
2. Enjoys motivating and communicating with participants.
3. Availability and flexibility to sub classes as needed.
4. Arrives early to each class in order to properly prep, set-up and greet participants.
5. Meets participants before and after class to answer questions.
6. Records attendance numbers for each class.
7. Reports and logs equipment in need of repair.
8. Attends mandatory meetings every semester.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 1. Provides a fun and safe workout through one or more specialty group exercise classes.
2. Educates participants concerning safe exercise techniques with ability to provide immediate modifications.
3. Acquaints new participants with class procedures.
4. Monitors proper form and technique using positive reinforcement.
5. Promotes classes and assist in promotions and events.
6. Obtains substitutes as needed.
7. Maintains a desire for continuing technical improvement and continuing education.
8. Excellent communication and motivational skills.
9. Ability to recognize potentially harmful situations that may lead to injuries and take appropriate actions.

Required Certifications/Licensures: 1. A nationally recognized group exercise certification such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NSCA, or CSCS.
2. Current CPR certification.

Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Major (if required: 

Required Experience: Previous group exercise teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. One (1) or more years of experience instructing group exercise.
2. Fitness, exercise science, or health-related degree
3. Previous experience in a University setting.
4. Ability to teach multiple group exercise formats.
