Job description

Responsibilities
Peraton is looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer in Herndon, VA to join our satellite ground terminal application development supporting our Intelligence Community and DoD customers. You will become a member of our integrated team of talented, high-performing engineers developing, testing, fielding, and maintaining our Java-based ground terminal applications. As part of this team, your work will enable critical satellite communications, emerging services, and distributed computing technologies providing reliable data exchange with multiple satellite platforms across several ground terminal locations. Key areas of support include the development of new system interfaces, integration of new system hardware, migration to updated infrastructure services, testing of system enhancements, and direct support of emerging customer needs.
Responsibilities of Position:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java software components implementing our distributed ground terminal application. Critical technologies include remote systems network communications, event-driven and state-driven response management, hardware interface management, error logging, and exception handling.
  • Perform all aspects of software engineering required to implement highly integrated and internetworked hardware and software systems.
  • Perform software requirements analysis, develop new component architectures, software design, programming, and integration of new services at the unit, module, component, and system levels.
  • Work with the customer and application users to identify emerging needs and user interactions to define new system and application-level needs.
  • Work with Ground Terminal (GT) Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to design, develop, and maintain GT management software systems.
  • Adhere to customer guidance, security requirements, open standards, modern software development best practices, and Industry standards to the extent that operational requirements will allow.
  • Provide technical reports, white papers and other documentation as required to document all software engineering service activities.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in Java (minimum of Java 17) including usage of Stream APIs, Future APIs, Lambdas, Records, and other modern Java development features.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • This position requires the candidate be capable of obtaining a U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI clearance and pass a polygraph.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience building applications in Spring Framework/Spring Boot and Swing.
  • Experience with Java Persistence Architecture (JPA) and hibernate.
  • Experience with SQL relational databases especially MariaDB.
  • Experience with JavaScript, Angular, and/or Go.
  • Experience with cloud application development, especially AWS.
  • Experience developing and testing software that directly interacts with hardware components such as modems, antennas, timing equipment, etc.

Target Salary Range
$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
