Job description

Sr. Compliance Engineer

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite, four days per week – Kohler, WI

Opportunity

Kohler is seeking a Senior Compliance Engineer to join our Codes & Standards team with a dedicated focus on electrical product compliance and certification. This role supports the successful certification and market access of Kohler's electrical and electronically enabled Kitchen & Bath products by helping development teams understand and navigate applicable safety, emissions, and efficiency requirements.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience working with product certification agencies, interpreting compliance requirements, and guiding projects through certification activities. While an engineering background is highly preferred, candidates with significant experience in electrical product certification, regulatory compliance, product safety, or related technical disciplines are encouraged to apply.
This role is well suited for someone who enjoys collaborating across functions, solving compliance challenges, and helping teams bring safe and compliant products to market.
Specific Responsibilities

  • Support product teams by identifying electrical safety, compliance, and certification requirements throughout product development.
  • Coordinate electrical product certifications with third-party agencies, including submissions, testing activities, renewals, documentation, and certification maintenance.
  • Serve as a compliance resource to engineering and project teams by helping interpret applicable electrical safety, emissions, and efficiency requirements.
  • Review product changes and assess potential impacts to existing certifications and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with testing laboratories, NRTLs, certification bodies, and regulatory organizations to support successful project execution.
  • Assist teams in understanding applicable North American requirements, including UL and CSA standards, and their implications for product design and market access.
  • Support compliance-related troubleshooting efforts when certification or regulatory issues arise.
  • Develop and maintain compliance guidance materials, reference documents, and training resources that improve organizational understanding of electrical certification requirements.
  • Monitor changes to relevant electrical safety standards and communicate potential impacts to product teams.
  • Participate in broader Codes & Standards activities, including regulatory monitoring, standards development, and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field is strongly preferred.
Equivalent combinations of technical education, product certification experience, regulatory compliance experience, or product safety expertise will also be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical product certification, product compliance, product safety, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience working with electrical certification agencies, testing laboratories, or NRTLs is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of North American electrical safety standards and certification processes, including UL and CSA requirements.
  • Familiarity with international standards and certification frameworks is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organization.
  • Self-motivated learner with strong attention to detail and a practical approach to resolving compliance challenges.
