Job description

The Role

Arriba Abajo is a Cantina-themed Bar and Restaurant,, inside the Thompson and Tommie Austin, two premier lifestyle hotels in Downtown Austin – This new concept will open in early Spring to include 17,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining and lounge space, multiple venue’s for private events and the pool deck servicing hotel guests and Residents.

The Culinary Supervisor will supervise the preparation and cooking of various food items, and also work with the Executive Chef to manage the department of hourly kitchen employees. This position is responsible for producing a consistent, quality product that meets and exceeds the guests’ needs in a timely manner. The Culinary Supervisor will have basic skills in department training and is capable of assuming department responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Chef.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

·         Leading and coaching the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and employee satisfaction results

·         Producing a consistent, quality product that meets and exceeds the guests' needs in a timely manner

·         Monitoring food production, ordering, cost, and quality and consistency on a daily basis

·         Ensuring proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen facilities and equipment

·         Leading department trainings

·         Assuming department responsibilities in the absence of the Sous Chef

·         Assisting with monitoring payroll costs and overtime

Both hotels are anchored on the ground floor by our re-imagined cantina-themed restaurant, a 13,000 sq ft. indoor and outdoor oasis as well as The 5th Street Diner The Royale Room. a street-side concept serving daily fare for locals, residents, and guests alike. This mixed-use project will also feature a residential tower – Sienna – and 10,000 square feet of retail space and a 7,000 sq. ft. state of the art fitness center and simulator room, appropriately named the “T” Box.

  • Requires refined communication skills, strong leadership and relationship skills.
  • 2 years of previous kitchen experience preferred.
  • Culinary degree or related kitchen experience is preferred.
  • Candidates should be able to perform all intermediate and advanced cooking skills.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must exhibit a positive attitude and have a passion for teamwork.
