Position
Join our Student Life team at Renton Technical College! The Student Life Coordinator supports the Office of Student Leadership & Programs (OSLP) by managing student life operations, program logistics, and key processes that support student leadership and campus engagement. Working closely with the Director of Student Life, this role serves as a central point of contact across students, campus partners, and departments, ensuring programs, services, and operations run smoothly and efficiently. As part of the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, this position centers equity in its work and supports a student-centered environment that fosters belonging and engagement.
The Student Life Coordinator is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) union. This is a full-time, classified, and overtime eligible position reporting to the Director of Student Life. The pay range for this role is $57,124.91 - $75,172.49 annually. Renton Technical College, located southeast of Seattle, has provided quality education in a variety of occupations for over 75 years. Our professional-technical certificate and degree programs offer entry and mid-level training in the areas of allied health, trades, and industry, culinary, business, technology, and automotive. Our outstanding college & career pathways program with classes in adult basic education, English as a second language, and GED preparation is available to those who need additional preparation before entering a training program and for those who simply wish to improve their math and English skills. Career Education and apprenticeships degrees round out our offerings.
Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions Include
Operations and Workflow
  • Manage daily operations of the Student Life office, maintaining a welcoming, organized, and functional space for students.
  • Manage calendars, timelines, reservations, and tracking tools to support programs, events, and overall office workflow.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students and campus partners, supporting navigation of Student Life processes and services.
  • Monitor tasks, timelines, and workflows to ensure follow-through and completion across Student Life operations.
  • Provide continuity of operations and general support in the absence of Student Life leadership.

Budget and Purchasing
  • Track and manage Student Life program budgets and spending, maintaining accurate records in collaboration with the Director of Student Life.
  • Manage purchasing and payment processes, working with the Business Office and vendors to ensure timely, accurate processing and complete documentation.
  • Collaborate with the ASG Executive Board, including the Treasurer, to support transparency and shared understanding of financial activity.
  • Monitor budget activity and support improvements to tools and procedures that strengthen tracking, organization, and consistency.

Student Leadership Hiring and Onboarding Coordination
  • Manage student leadership hiring processes, including applications, communication, interview scheduling, and timeline tracking.
  • Lead the hiring process while collaborating with the ASG Executive Board, including the Vice President.
  • Facilitate onboarding of student leaders by preparing materials and ensuring completion of required steps in collaboration with Human Resources.

Programs and Events
  • Manage logistics for student programs and events, including timelines, reservations, vendor coordination, and operational planning.
  • Support major events such as Commencement and campus-wide programs.
  • Lead program implementation in collaboration with the ASG Executive Board.
  • Guide student leaders in navigating program and event processes.

Collaboration and Process Improvement
  • Partner with campus departments and external partners to support Student Life programs and initiatives.
  • Facilitate clear communication between students, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Identify and support improvements to processes, systems, and workflows that enhance efficiency and organization within Student Life.
  • Support the college's mission by creating a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking. Foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related projects and assignments as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • High school graduate or equivalent. Associate degree preferred; demonstrated experience in student services or similar work strongly valued.
  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience in student services, program support, operations, or a related field, with proven ability to take initiative, stay organized, and follow through in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and apply culturally responsive, equity-minded practices in a student-centered environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines.
  • Ability to track processes, manage workflows, and ensure follow-through.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, maintain confidentiality, and contribute to problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working hours are generally aligned to business hours, Monday - Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Work is mostly sedentary in nature, performed in an office environment. Frequent use of a computer and exposure to terminal screens is required. Work and meetings may take place across campus. May drive/travel to trainings, conferences, and/or college events. This is mostly an in-person/on-campus position; remote work may occur as business permits.
