Job description

National Account Executive – Retail

Build a Better Career as a National Account Executive with BlueLinx!

BlueLinx is growing, and we are seeking a high-impact National Account Executive to lead and expand one of our most strategic national retail partnerships. This is not a traditional account management role. We are looking for a business owner who treats the retail business as their own P&L, drives strategy end-to-end, and delivers sustainable, profitable growth.

In this role, you will work directly with retail merchants and senior leaders across multiple categories and merchandising divisions, while also leading cross-functional execution internally across Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Analytics, Marketing, and Customer Service.

This role carries full ownership of results, with accountability for strategy, execution, and profitability. We are seeking a leader who can drive growth, influence senior stakeholders, and deliver measurable results across a complex, high-visibility account.

What Success Looks Like

  • The successful candidate thinks and acts like a business owner:
  • Owns revenue, margin, and long-term growth strategy
  • Anticipates risks and opportunities before they surface
  • Translates strategy into execution with discipline and speed
  • Builds solutions that create value for the merchant—not just incremental sales
  • Drives sustainable, profitable growth across categories and programs

What You’ll Do:

  • Business Ownership, Category Management & Program Leadership
  • Own full P&L performance of the retail account, including sales, margin, assortment health, and execution
  • Develop and execute multi-year growth strategies aligned with company objectives and retailer priorities
  • Analyze category, SKU, and program performance to scale winning products and eliminate underperformers
  • Lead product line reviews, assortment optimization, and category resets
  • Own new product introductions, including SKU setup, pricing strategy, and lifecycle performance
  • Lead new program launches from concept through post-launch execution and performance tracking
  • Ensure strong execution across inventory strategy, order flow, fulfillment, and in-store performance
  • Lead business reviews focused on insights, strategy, and value creation—not just reporting

Merchant & Executive Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with merchants and senior decision-makers
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for account performance
  • Confidently engage across all levels, including executive leadership on both sides

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Act as the internal quarterback for the retail business
  • Align Product, Supply Chain, Operations, Finance, Sales, and Analytics around clear priorities
  • Translate merchant needs into actionable, results-driven internal plans
  • Hold teams accountable to timelines, execution standards, and outcomes

Supplier & Market Leadership

  • Partner with manufacturers to identify and deliver differentiated products and programs
  • Maintain deep knowledge of market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs
  • Continuously seek opportunities to strengthen assortment and market position

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5–8+ years of experience managing large national retail accounts
  • Proven track record of driving profitable growth (not just top-line revenue)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into actionable strategy
  • Executive-level communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives
  • Highly organized with strong project management discipline
  • Entrepreneurial mindset—takes ownership, acts with urgency, delivers results
  • Comfortable making decisions, challenging the status quo, and being accountable for outcomes

Why This Role

This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with the opportunity to directly shape the growth trajectory of a major retail partnership. You will have the autonomy to operate like a business owner while leveraging the scale and resources of a national organization.

Why BlueLinx?

  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage.
  • 401K match and life insurance.
  • Generous vacation and holiday pay.
  • Tuition reimbursement to help you advance your career.

Our Values: With every decision and action, we put people first, keep the future in mind, and work as a team toward shared progress:
