Position Overview
The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Superintendent oversees all field operations related to MEP systems on construction projects. This role ensures that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage systems are installed according to project specifications, safety standards, budget, and schedule. The MEP Superintendent coordinates subcontractors, works closely with the project management team, and ensures high-quality execution in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Field Oversight & Coordination
  • Supervise day-to-day installation of MEP systems on job sites.
  • Coordinate and schedule activities of MEP subcontractors to maintain project timelines.
  • Monitor field progress and resolve conflicts between trades.
  • Conduct regular site walks to verify quality and compliance with drawings and specifications.

Technical Execution
  • Review MEP drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals for accuracy.
  • Identify potential issues with design or installation and propose solutions.
  • Ensure proper installation sequencing and integration with structural and architectural elements.
  • Oversee testing, commissioning, and start-up of MEP systems.

Safety & Quality Control
  • Enforce company and OSHA safety policies.
  • Ensure MEP subcontractors follow safety procedures and required PPE.
  • Inspect installations for quality and adherence to building codes and project standards.
  • Document deficiencies and verify corrective actions.

Communication & Documentation
  • Lead MEP coordination meetings with subcontractors, engineers, and the GC.
  • Report progress, issues, and schedule impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain daily reports, logs, and photo documentation.
  • Support change order documentation and RFI processes.

Project Scheduling & Budget
  • Provide input for the project schedule focusing on MEP milestones.
  • Monitor manpower, productivity, and subcontractor performance.
  • Help assess impacts of changes and delays related to MEP scope.

Qualifications
Required
  • 5-10+ years of experience in MEP construction or related field supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, BIM coordination models, and specifications.
  • Proven leadership and subcontractor coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication abilities.

Preferred
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, or large-scale construction projects.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Knowledge of scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Familiarity with BIM tools (Navisworks, Bluebeam, Procore, etc.).

  • Supervises: MEP subcontractor foremen, field crews
  • Works closely with: General Superintendent, MEP Engineers, Safety Manager, QC Manager
