Job description

Early Childhood Coordinator

The Christian Neighborhood Center of Norwich, Inc., dba The Place is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Norwich, NY that serves Chenango County. The Place was founded in 1983 and has been serving Chenango County youth and young adults through an established continuum of research-based programs to prepare them for college, career, and citizenship.

Position Summary

The Early Childhood Coordinator plays a key role in designing, implementing, and overseeing high-quality early childhood education programs at The Place. This position ensures that programming is developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with licensing regulations and best practices. The Coordinator will lead staff development, support family engagement, and foster a nurturing environment where children can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

In addition, the Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and launch a new early learning center in the community. This includes leading efforts around licensing and compliance with NYS OCFS, curriculum design, and recruitment and onboarding of qualified staff to ensure the center reflects the high standards and values of The Place.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage curriculum and daily activities for early childhood programs, ensuring alignment with NYS OCFS regulations and early learning standards.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan and implement the development of a new early learning center, including licensing, staffing, and program design.
  • Supervise and mentor early childhood staff, providing ongoing training, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Maintain compliance with all licensing, health, and safety requirements, including documentation, inspections, and reporting.
  • Build strong relationships with families, providing regular communication, support, and opportunities for involvement.
  • Collaborate with community partners, schools, and service providers to enhance program offerings and referrals.
  • Monitor child development and behavior, ensuring individualized support and referrals when needed.
  • Assist with grant writing, reporting, and data collection to support program sustainability and growth.
  • Support outreach and enrollment efforts, including tours, orientations, and promotional materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in early childhood settings, with supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and inclusive practices.
  • Familiarity with NYS OCFS licensing standards and CACFP guidelines.
  • Experience with program development and staff recruitment preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
