Job Summary

The Director of Quality is responsible for motors, motor gearbox assemblies, machining, testing, measurement systems, electronics drives and component quality, reliability, cost reduction and warranty mitigation. This is a critical role to support new product development and qualification, safe launch process, product transfers, product application engineering development, sustaining quality problem solving, customer and plant operation quality process controls. This position also provides quality direction and support to procurement to help select, qualify, and develop new suppliers to manufacture and measure product materials and parts. Finally, this role is to responsibly listen and professionally respond to the voice of the external and internal customers to manage improvement projects and metrics.

Role Overview

Manage teams and projects to implement new products without quality, warranty or safety issues
Manage New Product APQP & Safe Launch processes to proactively prevent issues

Drive and implement action plans to improve quality metrics

Manage projects to reduce Failure Costs of Quality

Interact with customers and manage teams of functional groups to assure customer satisfaction

Lead 8D problem solving meetings and implement actions to resolve customer problems

Champion the business unit Six Sigma process to implement cultural change

Lead quality projects to implement measurement equipment and quality systems

Develop presentations and lead quality communications

Implement Quality Management System to assure compliance to ISO and Nidec Way

Travel to Nidec sites, suppliers and customers to verify product and process controls for quality


Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science is required
  • MBA or Advanced degree preferred
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Manager and Operational Excellence or commitment to complete
  • 10-15 years of quality management and manufacturing engineering experience with demonstrated capability utilizing problem solving tools to solve manufacturing and customer problems
  • solid project management background having a proven track record of driving projects as a team player from concept through completion
  • Capability to analyze and interpret data utilizing Six-Sigma tools and methodologies. Thorough understanding of SPC processes along with Minitab statistical analysis software or equivalent.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification required or commitment to complete certification, Black Belt preferred
  • Strong 8D problem solving tool knowledge and ability to lead teams to problem resolution. Shainin RedX training and certification preferred and OpEx training a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%
