Job description

About the Role

The team is scaling its standards development capability. These contractors will play a critical role in researching emerging technologies, identifying documentation gaps, and building foundational content that informs the Client’s future standards roadmap.

Our client is seeking two Technical Writers to support standards development, seed documentation, and technical research initiatives. These contractors will help accelerate the client's work by conducting literature reviews, mapping existing standards, and drafting technical publications that inform future standards activities.

This role is ideal for candidates who excel at technical research, engineering‑aligned writing, and translating complex concepts into clear, structured documentation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews and white‑space mapping across emerging technologies and engineering domains.

  • Research existing standards (UL, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, ISO, NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.) to identify gaps and opportunities.

  • Develop seed documents, technical briefs, executive summaries, and research summaries.

  • Draft technical publications, including landscape analyses, guidance documents, and engineering‑style technical reports.

  • Collaborate closely with Technical Writers and SMEs to gather information and validate findings.

  • Attend SME interviews or engineering meetings as needed.

  • Support finalization of internal SOPs and documentation frameworks.

Required Qualifications
  • Proven technical writing experience in engineering, standards, science, or public policy. (Experience drafting technical publications, standards, guidance documents, and research-based content.)

  • Strong independent research skills and ability to consolidate findings into structured reports. ( - Experience researching existing industry standards, regulations, and technical frameworks; also, strong documentation skills and attention to detail) , Literature Research & Review – Strong ability to research, analyze, and summarize technical literature.

  • Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into audience‑appropriate content.

  • Familiarity with standards organizations (UL, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, ISO, NFPA, ASHRAE).

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and SharePoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in engineering, scientific research, or technical documentation.

  • Experience drafting standards, guidance documents, or technical publications.

  • Prior industry experience as a Technical Writer.
