Job Title: Laser Operator

Job Description

The Laser Operator plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process by operating precision laser cutting machinery to fabricate parts and components according to detailed specifications. This position involves setting up and running Mazak Fiber Optic and CO2 laser equipment, ensuring accurate cutting, proper material alignment, and consistent quality of finished products. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety while working in a fast-paced, temperature-controlled production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate Mazak Fiber Optic and CO2 laser machines according to job specifications and production requirements.
  • Program and adjust laser cutting parameters, including speed, power, and focus, based on material type, thickness, and blueprint requirements.
  • Load and secure raw materials onto the laser cutting equipment, ensuring proper alignment and positioning for accurate cutting.
  • Operate laser cutting machinery to produce parts and components that meet dimensional and quality standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure correct part geometry, tolerances, and cutting paths.
  • Monitor production processes continuously, checking for proper machine performance and making adjustments as needed to maintain optimal efficiency.
  • Inspect finished products for defects, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality, performing quality inspections in accordance with established standards.
  • Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or operational issues, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on laser cutting equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines for operating laser cutting machinery, maintaining a safe working environment for self and coworkers.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments to prioritize tasks and meet production goals.
  • Adapt to changing production schedules and priorities, remaining flexible to updated job assignments and workflow changes.
  • Use shop math and measurement tools, including tape measures in both metric and imperial units, to verify dimensions and ensure precision.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities to support other fabrication processes and equipment as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Mazak laser equipment is a plus.
  • Laser programming experience is a plus.
  • Expereince in sheet metal fabrication is beneficial.
  • Experience with press brake operations is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication processes is a plus.
  • Additional troubleshooting experience with laser machines and related equipment is beneficial.
  • Prior experience in laser operation in a manufacturing environment is an asset.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that operates primarily on a first shift schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with openings currently on first and second shift. The work environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with changing priorities and schedules that require flexibility. The facility is temperature controlled, providing a comfortable and stable climate while working around laser cutting equipment and fabrication processes. You will work with Mazak Fiber Optic and CO2 laser machines and may interact with other fabrication equipment such as press brakes and related machinery. Safety protocols are strictly followed, and employees are expected to adhere to established safety guidelines and use appropriate protective equipment as required by the tasks and machinery.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Racine, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
