Job description

We have a beautiful Chris Kostow designed kitchen cooking for the engineer, chemist, scientist and executive teams of an up and coming biotech company in the heart of Silicon Valley. Sure, this is corporate cooking at it's core but we work directly for the company, not a third party. Expectations from executives are high and everything from croissants, danish, sourdough variations and daily desserts are made from scratch. Breakfast and lunch daily for roughly 70-80, you can expect a schedule of 6am-3:30pm M-F, weekends off, and holidays paid. We do have a few special events annually such as 2 board meetings, 3-4 community engagements, & a holiday party that require extra hours but they are always OT and sometimes 2X pay.
The kitchen is well equipped: Full size triple deck oven with steam, Esmach spiral mixer, traditional globe mixer, blast chiller/deep freeze, countertop sheeter, TMB proofer/retarder, double stack Rational combi & just about every smallware from a grain mill to a chocolate sprayer and molds galore.
We are a team of and looking for restaurant professionals with drive and passion, maybe a little crispy around the edges, but not burnt out. Our mission is to emulate the precision and exploration of the labs upstairs: always driving forward, not afraid to fail and learning from our mistakes.
Benefits include 100% 401k match up to $10,500, potential stock options after 12 months, Health insurance to purchase (high deductible with HSA Card), Free Gym Membership, Training sessions with our in house fitness instructor, all sorts of physical health based classes, the wonderful schedule, a great kitchen and a small but mighty team. One of the greatest benefits here is that you can expect a steady schedule, we do not cut hours or send staff home early.
This position operates the pastry kitchen by themselves with support of the director of dining and sous chef who are well versed in pastry production for this operation. We'd prefer the candidate to bring their own ideas but we have developed a thick binder over the years of items we know work while you get settled.
Being a small team with high expectations, the team moves where the work is so you will never be hung out to dry. We all get involved if one of our porters calls out or if someone has a heavy prep day.
This is a rare gig, working in a dynamic restaurant quality environment while enjoying a corporate schedule. We look forward to hearing from serious professionals.
