Executive Full Stack Software Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Executive Full Stack Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as an Executive Full Stack Software Engineer, you need deep expertise in both front-end and back-end development, advanced knowledge of multiple programming languages, and a track record of technical leadership, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with modern frameworks (such as React, Angular, Node.js), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), DevOps tools, and relevant certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect are highly valuable. Strong communication, project management, and strategic decision-making skills help you bridge technical teams and business stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for delivering robust solutions, leading innovation, and aligning technology initiatives with organizational goals.

How does an Executive Full Stack Software Engineer balance hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities?

As an Executive Full Stack Software Engineer, you'll often split your time between hands-on technical work and leading teams or projects. This means you may spend part of your day architecting solutions or reviewing code, but you'll also be involved in strategy meetings, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with stakeholders from other departments. Balancing these duties requires strong time management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to delegate effectively. Many in this role find success by setting clear priorities, leveraging agile methodologies, and maintaining close collaboration with both technical and non-technical team members.

What are Executive Full Stack Software Engineers?

Executive Full Stack Software Engineers are highly experienced professionals who possess expertise in both front-end and back-end software development while also having leadership or management responsibilities. They contribute to the architectural design, development, and deployment of applications, and often oversee technical strategy and team direction. These engineers bridge the gap between technical execution and business objectives, making technical decisions that align with organizational goals. Their role requires strong coding skills, a deep understanding of software systems, and the ability to lead and mentor other engineers.

Job description

Full Stack Software Designer

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time (on-site) experienced Full Stack Software Developer in Pittsburgh, PA we're looking for? Your future role As a Full Stack Developer, you will join the EBI Screen 2000 product development team. EBI Screen 2000 is a mission-critical enterprise application built on a modern microservices architecture, deployed on RKE2 Kubernetes clusters. You will contribute to the end-to-end development, enhancement, and maintenance of the product, working across backend services, frontend interfaces, DevOps practices, and test automation in a highly scalable, distributed environment. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse technology stack and deliver robust, high-performance solutions that power core business functions.

We will look to you for:

  • Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based components of the EBI Screen 2000 platform.
  • Implement backend services and APIs using server-side languages, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Build responsive and intuitive user interfaces using modern frontend frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain automated test suites using Robot Framework to ensure high product quality and regression coverage.
  • Containerize applications with Docker and orchestrate deployments on RKE2 Kubernetes (Rancher Kubernetes Engine 2).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (program managers, QA, DevOps, and architects) in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following best practices and coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and incident resolution.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, technical documentation, and continuous improvement of the CI/CD pipeline.
  • All About You We value passion and attitude over experience. Consequently, we do not expect you to possess every skill listed below. However, possessing some of the following qualities will support your success and growth in this role. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). 5+ years of professional full-stack software development experience . Strong proficiency in Python and at least two of the following programming languages: C++, C#, Java, or Go. Proven experience developing and maintaining applications in a microservices architecture . Familiarity with Robot Framework for test automation (writing keyword-driven tests, integrating with CI/CD, and maintaining test libraries). Familiarity with RESTful APIs, gRPC, message queues (e.g., Kafka, Artemis), and relational/no-SQL databases. Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI etc.), and cloud platforms (Azure).

Preferred Skills Advanced expertise in Robot Framework, including custom libraries, or API testing extensions. Optional hands-on experience with Angular (or similar modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks) for building dynamic frontend applications. Practical knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration with Kubernetes, specifically RKE2 or similar distributions. Experience with additional languages or tools in the EBI Screen 2000 stack (e.g., deeper expertise across C++, C#, Java, Go). Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Helm) and monitoring solutions (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack). Understanding of security best practices, performance tuning, and distributed systems challenges. Contributions to open-source projects or a strong GitHub/portfolio demonstrating relevant work. Experience in Rail Control Solutions – ATS and SCADA or enterprise-scale applications is a plus.

Important to note As a global business, we're an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
