What is an Executive EDA Engineer?

An Executive EDA Engineer is a senior-level professional specializing in Electronic Design Automation (EDA), which involves developing and managing software tools used to design and verify electronic systems such as integrated circuits and printed circuit boards. This role typically combines technical expertise in EDA tools and methodologies with leadership responsibilities, such as overseeing engineering teams, setting project direction, and collaborating with other departments. Executive EDA Engineers often play a key role in defining technology strategies, ensuring the adoption of best practices, and driving innovation within an organization’s electronic design processes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Executive EDA Engineer?

To thrive as an Executive EDA Engineer, you need deep expertise in electronic design automation (EDA), semiconductor design principles, and a relevant engineering degree, often with substantial industry experience. Proficiency with industry-standard EDA tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Mentor Graphics, as well as familiarity with scripting languages and verification systems, is crucial. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills help in driving cross-functional teams and aligning technical strategies with business goals. These skills ensure the successful delivery of complex design projects, innovation in methodologies, and effective coordination within high-stakes environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Executive EDA Engineers when leading cross-functional design projects?

Executive EDA Engineers often encounter challenges related to coordinating efforts between hardware design, software development, and verification teams. Ensuring seamless integration of Electronic Design Automation tools across different platforms requires strong communication, project management skills, and a deep understanding of each team's workflows. Additionally, they must stay updated on rapidly evolving EDA technologies and industry standards, while managing tight project timelines and resource constraints. Proactively addressing these challenges is key to delivering successful, innovative design solutions.

Job description

Houston, United States | Posted on 06/10/2026

OpenLM is looking for a curious, technically-minded Technical Account Executive to join our US team. This is a hybrid role sitting at the intersection of presales, technical support, and customer business partnership. You will work directly with prospects and customers — understanding their engineering and IT environments, demonstrating our software license management platform, and ensuring their long-term success.

This is a growth role. Strong performers will be developed into Key Account Managers or Business Managers, taking ownership of strategic accounts and regional revenue targets.

What you will do
  • Run product demonstrations tailored to each prospect's technical environment (EDA, CAD, engineering software stacks).
  • Respond to RFPs and technical questionnaires; prepare evaluation plans and proof-of-concept scopes.
  • Partner with the sales team to qualify opportunities and move deals through the pipeline.
Customer success & technical support
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for a portfolio of US accounts post-sale.
  • Troubleshoot license server issues, integration questions, and deployment challenges.
  • Conduct periodic business reviews and usage health checks with customer stakeholders.
Business & account development
  • Understand each customer's license optimization goals, IT governance requirements, and budget cycles.
  • Identify upsell and expansion opportunities; collaborate with account owners on renewal strategies.
  • Build relationships across IT, procurement, and engineering personas within customer organizations.
Requirements Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands‑on technical experience will be considered.
  • 0–3 years of experience in a technical sales, solutions engineering, or support role (internships count).
  • Comfortable discussing technical topics — servers, networks, software licensing, or IT infrastructure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; confident presenting to both technical and business audiences.
  • Self‑starter who can manage a pipeline, follow up diligently, and work independently across time zones.
Nice to have
  • Familiarity with software license management, EDA tools, CAD/CAM, or HPC environments.
  • Experience with CRM tools (Zoho, Salesforce, or similar) and sales pipeline management.
  • Exposure to enterprise SaaS sales cycles or B2B account management.
  • Second language is a plus — our US customer base spans global engineering teams.
Your growth path
  • Technical Account Executive: Presales, POC delivery, technical support, early account ownership.
  • Key Account Manager: Own a strategic account portfolio; renewals, expansions, executive relationships; Year 2–3.
  • P&L ownership for the US region; team coordination, partner strategy; Year 3+
Why OpenLM
  • Global impact — our platform is used by aerospace, automotive, defense, and R&D teams in 40+ countries.
  • Real ownership from day one — you will run POCs, lead calls, and manage accounts, not just shadow seniors.
  • Fast‑growing company with a flat structure — your ideas reach leadership quickly.
  • Remote‑friendly with a collaborative team across the US, India, Japan, and Europe.
  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, for strong performers.
