Company Description: Academic Independence Coaching has been supporting students since 2013. Our mission is to empower students to become academically independent through self-regulated learning and brain-friendly, research-driven strategies. We don't just help students get through homework — we teach them how to learn, so the skills stick long after they leave us.

Our team draws on real neuroscience (attention, working memory, long-term memory) and a proven self-regulation framework to build students' confidence, executive function skills, and independence. Beyond tutoring, we offer Executive Functioning Coaching, dyslexia and dyscalculia intervention, our Study Lounge, parent seminars, summer courses, and test prep.

Role Description: We are looking for a warm, patient, and energetic Generalist Tutor for elementary and middle school students to join our team. You'll work one-on-one (and sometimes in small groups) with students across core subjects — reading, writing, math, and study skills — while helping them build the executive function habits (planning, organization, monitoring, evaluating) that make them independent learners, not just students who got through today's homework.

This is a great fit for someone who loves this age group, believes in a growth mindset, and wants to do more than "help with homework" — you'll be teaching kids how to think about their own thinking.

Duties:

  • Provide engaging, individualized tutoring across elementary/middle school subjects
  • Reinforce executive function skills — planning, organization, attention, monitoring, and evaluating — using brain-friendly strategies (chunking, blind recall, spaced review, graphic organizers, and more)
  • Build genuine rapport with students so sessions feel supportive, not stressful — helping kids "own" challenges rather than shut down from them
  • Track student progress and communicate clearly with families and our coaching team
  • Adapt strategies to each student's motivation profile, strengths/challenges, and grade-level needs

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school–age students (tutoring or teaching experience preferred)
  • Strong grasp of core elementary/middle school subject matter (reading, writing, math)
  • Genuine enthusiasm for this age group — patient, encouraging, and comfortable meeting kids where they are
  • Interest in executive function coaching and self-regulated learning (prior familiarity is a plus, but not required — we train on our methodology)
  • Reliable, organized, and communicative with both students and parents
  • Bachelor's degree required
