Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and support field operations personnel to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Establish and maintain standardized operational processes, field reporting, and execution practices across all projects.
  • Monitor project performance, labor productivity, equipment utilization, quality, schedules, and operational costs while implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Review project budgets, forecasts, key performance indicators (KPIs), and operational metrics to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Evaluate operational workflows and implement continuous improvement initiatives that enhance communication, productivity, and quality.
  • Lead change management initiatives and promote adoption of new processes, technologies, and best practices.
  • Spend approximately 25-50% of working time in the field observing operations, supporting crews, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Build strong working relationships with field leadership while ensuring corporate initiatives are effectively communicated and executed.
  • Support workforce planning, staffing, succession planning, coaching, and leadership development for field personnel.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning, budgeting, organizational growth, equipment planning, and operational improvements.
  • Identify operational challenges early and develop sustainable solutions that improve overall project performance and accountability.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel regularly to active construction sites (approximately 25-50%)
  • Ability to walk active jobsites, climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and work in outdoor construction environments
  • Ability to remain on construction sites for extended periods while observing operations and supporting field personnel
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials or equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and around heavy construction equipment

Position Requirements
Required
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial construction, tank construction, structural steel, welding, or related heavy construction industries
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing field operations teams
  • Experience managing project budgets, labor productivity, operational metrics, and financial performance
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, scheduling, project execution, and workforce management
  • Ability to analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and key performance indicators
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead operational improvements and implement organizational change
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing field leadership
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify operational issues and implement effective corrective actions

Preferred
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives within construction operations
  • Experience supporting long-term operational planning and organizational growth
  • Experience working within a design-build or self-performing construction organization
