Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Position Summary
Provides instruction and technical support for undergraduates in both introductory and upper level courses including biomedical electronics bio instrumentation and signals and systems. Employment will be through the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus, but some courses may be taught at the North Carolina State University campus. In addition to teaching, undergraduate advising, curriculum planning and participation in the ABET accreditation process will also be an integral part of the position responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
-Delivery of lectures that cover the course objectives as stated on the course syllabus following the dates of the NC State University and University of North Carolina university calendars for the given semester.
-Assessment of student performance including exams, projects, laboratory assignments and/or homework assignments as outlined on the course syllabus.
-If the course contains a lab section, overseeing the laboratory component to guarantee appropriate content of lab exercises and coordination of the lab with the lecture.
-All other responsibilities associated with teaching the course including grading exams, papers and projects in a timely manner and providing help to students during scheduled office hours.
-If a teaching assistant is provided, provide supervision to the teaching assistant and coordinate assignments not exceeding the workload of the teaching assistant.
-The faculty member will teach courses on topics in one or more of the following areas of Biomedical Engineering (BME): biomedical electronics, signals and systems, bio instrumentation, advanced bio instrumentation, or biomedical imaging.
-The instructional load for this position will be 2 to 3 courses per semester for a total of 4 to 6 courses taught each academic year. Employment will be through the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus, but some courses may be located on the North Carolina State University campus.
-The individual must work productively and in a collaborative manner across all constituent BME entities, i.e. University of North Carolina College of Arts and Sciences, University of North Carolina School of Medicine and the NC State University College of Engineering.
-The individual will be an integral component of the ABET preparation process across the two Universities.
-The candidate will also be expected to assist with undergraduate advising and curriculum planning.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated teaching excellence at the university level, particularly in the target course areas listed above, and who have demonstrated technical skill in several of the target course areas.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
