Job description
SPR, located in Rockwall, TX, is a manufacturer of flexible packaging and agricultural film solutions. SPR is a subsidiary of the Armando Alvarez Group, a 100% privately owned, family company with over $1.3 billion USD in annual sales. The Alvarez Group is headquartered in Spain and has over 2,500 employees across 18 companies operating in over 100 countries around the world.
The Agricultural Division is committed to enhancing the prosperity of the growers we serve with the goal of providing solutions that help sustainably feed a growing population across the world. By creating quality products, sharing knowledge, cultivating relationships, and consistently reinvesting in our business, we help ensure that customers and growers can succeed for generations to come.
Position SummarySPR's Agricultural Division is seeking an experienced Director of Sales for the Agriculture division to lead the commercial organization and assume broad responsibility for execution of its growth and market strategy. The Director is responsible for the performance and development of the Agriculture sales team, retention and growth of core customers, new-business development, product and channel strategy, pricing and margin discipline, forecasting, inventory coordination, and cross-functional execution.
This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural plastics and the markets they serve, including mulch films, greenhouse films, silage and grain bags, silage covers, barrier films, twine, and specialty agricultural products. The Director must be capable of working with growers, distributors, dealers, large agricultural operators, internal manufacturing teams, and international product and manufacturing resources.
Because the Agriculture business combines domestically manufactured and internationally sourced products, the Director plays an important role in coordinating Sales with Customer Service, Purchasing, Production, Scheduling, Quality, Technical, Logistics, and Armando Alvarez Group Product Managers and factories.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesA candidate for this position must share a passion for agriculture as well as the honesty, integrity, commitment, and work ethic characteristic of the customers and industries SPR serves. The candidate must be commercially driven, highly organized, and comfortable working in a dynamic and multicultural environment.
- Lead the Agriculture Division's sales execution with responsibility for profitable growth, customer development, account retention, margin discipline, and commercial performance.
- Lead, develop, coach, and hold accountable the Agriculture sales team through development of the technical and commercial capabilities of the Agriculture sales team through structured product, application, pricing, market, manufacturing, and sales training.
- Translate company and division strategy into clear territories, account responsibilities, product priorities, channel strategies, and sales objectives.
- Establish performance objectives and scorecards covering volume, margin trends, account development, new-business activity, forecast accuracy, and process adherence.
- Conduct regular individual and team reviews to reinforce expectations, customer activity, account ownership, and accountability.
- Maintain direct ownership or executive-level involvement with strategic Agriculture customers and channel partners.
- Maintain and grow core customer relationships based on revenue, margin contribution, strategic importance, and product-category relevance.
- Identify and develop new customers, distributors, dealers, growers, and geographic markets consistent with SPR and Armando Alvarez Group strategy.
- Manage distributor and dealer relationships while maintaining appropriate channel control, market access, pricing discipline, and direct strategic relationships.
- Coordinate product positioning, brand strategy, pricing, and market development with relevant AAG Product Managers.
- Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to support new-product development, product improvements, sourcing decisions, manufacturing priorities, and capital-investment decisions.
- Coordinate launches, qualifications, demonstrations, field trials, customer feedback, and commercialization of new or modified agricultural products.
- Partner with Marketing and AAG Product Managers on trade shows, field demonstrations, product literature, distributor materials, customer visits, and market-development programs.
- Own the Agriculture sales forecast by customer, product, season, and source of supply.
- Maintain inventory plans that coordinate across committed stock, open purchase orders, customer allocations, backorders, aged inventory, over/under runs, and other order or inventory risks affecting sales.
- Balance growth objectives with inventory requirements, production capacity, sourcing constraints, lead times, and profitability.
- Maintain a disciplined and realistic sales pipeline by evaluating product fit, timing, volume, margin expectations, source of supply, inventory impact, and operational feasibility.
- Ensure customer pricing, pricing tools, commercial agreements, and contract terms are properly documented, traceable, and accessible to the appropriate internal teams.
- Reinforce CRM usage for customer activity, opportunities, forecasts, account planning, and pipeline management.
- Ensure the sales team provides complete and accurate information for new items, customer specifications, order changes, labels, technical documentation, warranties, pricing, delivery requirements, and other cross-functional processes.
- Coordinate closely with Customer Service to improve order accuracy, proactive customer communication, aged-order management, backorder visibility, and escalation of customer risks.
- Monitor competitor activity, agricultural trends, crop and regional market conditions, customer needs, and changes within dealer and distributor networks.
- Provide timely reports, forecasts, market feedback, risks, and recommendations to the Vice President of Sales and appropriate AAG Product Managers.
- Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Business, Marketing, or a related discipline preferred; a non-agriculture degree combined with significant agricultural-industry experience or commensurate experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of progressive sales experience within agriculture, horticulture, agricultural plastics, crop inputs, agricultural equipment, or another relevant agricultural market.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing sales professionals.
- Proven ability to manage strategic accounts, distributor/dealer relationships, and new-business development.
- Knowledge of agricultural plastics such as greenhouse film, mulch film, silage or grain bags, silage covers, oxygen-barrier films, bale wrap, twine, or related products strongly preferred.
- Experience with forecasting, inventory management, seasonal demand planning, pricing, and margin management.
- Experience coordinating with manufacturing, purchasing, logistics, customer service, technical, and international supply organizations.
- Strong negotiation, interpersonal, analytical, presentation, and written and oral communication skills.
- Well organized with excellent attention to detail and consistent follow-through.
- Proficiency with CRM, ERP/business systems, Microsoft Office applications, and commercial reporting tools.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly valued but not required.
- Primary commercial responsibility for SPR's Agriculture Division.
- United States and Canada, with other markets in the Americas as assigned.
- Frequent customer, distributor, grower, manufacturing-facility, trade-show, and field travel is required.
- Periodic travel to Spain and other Armando Alvarez Group locations is expected.
The position requires regular travel and customer, field, warehouse, and manufacturing-facility visits. The employee may periodically be required to stand or walk for extended periods and work in outdoor agricultural environments as well as office and manufacturing settings.
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of approximately 20-30 lbs. may be required.
