Description

Nodal Exchange, the largest power futures exchange in North America, is a derivatives exchange that provides price, credit, and liquidity risk management to participants. It operates the worldโ€™s largest set of environmental and electric power futures and options contracts and is part of the EEX Group under the Deutscheโ€ฏBรถrse Group. The role of Assistant General Counsel is to provide legal advice and counsel across all of Nodalโ€™s businesses, working with other attorneys in the General Counselโ€™s office and engaging with business, finance, and technology stakeholders to address commercial needs in a legally compliant manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and counsel for Nodalโ€™s businesses, working with other attorneys in General Counselโ€™s office, and engaging with business to address any commercial business needs in a legally compliant manner.
  • Stay abreast of changing laws and regulations applicable to the business and work with business, finance, and technology stakeholders to develop and implement best practices.
  • Lead and/or assist in the preparation, review, editing, or negotiation of various business contracts, including thirdโ€‘party service provider, nondisclosure, confidentiality, and multiple types of licensing agreements, to mitigate risk in accordance with company policies and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Structure and draft agreements, amendments, addenda, and other documents to comply with new and existing legal responsibilities and commercial contracts.
  • Review and help maintain all company policies and procedures as needed.
  • Assist in the administrative process and maintenance of the legal file systems.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the legal needs, policies and procedures of the business, and any applicable legal or policy issues of the EEX Group.
Preferred Professional Qualifications and Skills
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABAโ€‘accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the Virginia Bar in good standing or otherwise admitted in another state with the ability to become authorized to practice law as inโ€‘house counsel in Virginia.
  • A minimum of 4 to 7 years relevant experience as a practicing attorney as either an associate at a law firm or inโ€‘house legal department, preferably in a financial/technology related business.
  • Working knowledge of at least one or more specialty areas including contracts, licensing, intellectual property, data protection, antitrust, technology, APIs, employment, privacy, immigration, and security.
  • Experience in corporate or commercial contract drafting, review, and negotiations.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple matters at once and complete them in an organized and timely manner.
  • Wellโ€‘developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to address complex legal problems and business needs without compromising work quality.
  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Some knowledge of applicable legal/regulatory requirements related to the financial industry is a plus.
  • Diligent team player with a good sense of humor - or at least the ability to politely recognize the attempts at humor of your colleagues.

Salary Range: $180,000 - $235,000 base salary, commensurate with experience and annualized, plus Annual Bonus.

Pay Transparency Notice: The salary range is based on the D.C. metro area; the successful candidateโ€™s starting salary will vary depending on permissible, nonโ€‘discriminatory factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, and experience. This range represents the companyโ€™s good faith estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting for this position. Annual atโ€‘risk bonus opportunities are nonโ€‘guaranteed and are dependent upon individual and company performance.
