What are some common challenges faced in an Excel Reporting role, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in an Excel Reporting role is managing large and complex datasets while ensuring data accuracy and consistency. It's important to develop strong attention to detail and to implement checks, such as using data validation and error-checking formulas. Another challenge is automating repetitive tasks to save time—this can often be addressed by learning advanced Excel features like PivotTables, Power Query, and macros. Collaborating with team members to understand their reporting needs and maintaining clear documentation also helps ensure that reports are useful and reliable for decision-making.

Job Description

We're looking for a highly analytical Accounting Analyst who enjoys working with data, building reports, and improving how accounting teams operate. This is a high-impact role for someone who wants to go beyond traditional accounting work-combining accounting, data, and process improvement to help the business operate more effectively.

This role is ideal for someone who brings strong accounting fundamentals, a solid understanding of cost and expense structures, and advanced Excel skills to transform complex financial data into clear, accurate, and scalable reporting solutions. You'll play a key role in supporting month-end close, strengthening reporting accuracy, and improving processes across accounting and operations.

What You'll Do

  • Partner cross-functionally with accounting, payroll, and operations to deliver reporting and analysis that supports decision-making
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Build and maintain Excel-based reports, models, and templates to support recurring accounting and reporting needs
  • Transform raw data from multiple sources into structured, accurate, and user-friendly reporting outputs
  • Support month-end close through reconciliations, variance analysis, and preparation of supporting schedules
  • Create scalable reporting tools that improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency
  • Investigate data issues, determine root causes, and implement practical solutions
  • Support audit readiness and maintain clear, organized documentation and workpapers
  • Contribute to process improvements that reduce manual work and strengthen internal controls
Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in a multi-entity or high-volume environment
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost/expense analysis, reconciliations, accruals, month-end close and general ledger activity
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, data analysis tools)
  • Experience building reports, models, or templates from complex or raw data
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain data clearly

Nice to Have

  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Exposure to payroll data, vendor analysis, cost allocation, or operational reporting
  • Experience with Power Query, Power BI, or similar tools
