Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

Primarily responsible for developing test methods and procedures to determine the dimensional features of products; validating and conducting production inspections of all products produced through manufacturing and assembly processes; and properly using and maintaining measurement tools and equipment.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include additional duties and responsibilities as management deems necessary from time to time.

  • Develops and uses measurement methods and equipment to determine the dimensional features of products
  • Program and use CMM, Vision Systems, and Laser Scanning equipment
  • Develop measurement programs for use by quality auditors and production personnel
  • Perform inspection and testing of molded components and assemblies for conformance to design and configuration requirements
  • Troubleshooting CMM, Vision, and Laser Scanning programs and system malfunctions
  • Optimize inspection methods to improve inspection efficiency and manage equipment capacity
  • Train colleagues and quality auditors on the vision system (i.e., Micro-Vu) and CMM operation for parts being run on the production floor that require this equipment
  • Perform workmanship evaluations on plastic parts (flash, damage, discoloration, contamination, etc.) using microscopes
  • Compile and analyze measurement data and statistics to assess measurement methods and process capability
  • Perform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility studies to evaluate measurement methods
  • Perform tests and record data in either Excel or Minitab
  • Identify and Report Non-conformances of product or processes
  • Provide support for the Corrective Action investigation
  • Helps support gage calibration, including:  monitoring calibration due dates, performing calibrations, and working with third parties to complete calibrations
  • Works with quality auditors and the production floor to ensure gauges are calibrated, labeled, and stored in the proper location

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years’ related experience and/or training in quality
  • ASQ certification as a Quality Inspector, Quality Technician, or Gage Calibration Technician is desired
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, including ISO/ASME GD&T
  • Demonstrates basic metrology knowledge
  • Utilize trigonometry, geometry, statistics (in relation to SPC), and basic math problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a wide variety of measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, gages, and others.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Must be able to work independently, handling multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player in a diverse work group.
