Job description

Description:

Overall responsibility is to increase sales and market penetration of confocal, multiphoton, super resolution, high content, and other laser-based imaging systems within a multi-state territory and team selling environment. In this highly technical sales role, lead system sales efforts in the region and serve as the primary support mechanism for each regional sales team, comprised of Bioscience Sales Specialist (BSS) and Advanced Imaging Specialist (AIS) representatives. Develop and implement sales strategies with each regional sales team and sales management to achieve the target sales budget and other regional goals. Work closely with internal service, product management, software, and technical support teams to ensure competitive sales success and long-term customer satisfaction. Most of the employee’s time is spent working in research laboratories at universities, hospitals, biomedical institutions, and biotechnology/pharmaceutical companies to advance sales opportunities and strategic initiatives. The employee’s product sales responsibility will focus on laser-based imaging solutions in the territory.


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Develop and implement sales strategies for each region in your territory with your local sales teams and sales management to achieve the target sales budget, focusing on Nikon’s portfolio of advanced confocal, multiphoton, super resolution, and high content imaging solutions

· Provide expert-level customer demonstrations of laser-based imaging systems as needed

· Lead talks, seminars, and workshops on laser-based imaging systems as needed

· Install and optimize advanced imaging systems at customer sites, with assistance from local sales and other internal teams, to ensure long-term customer satisfaction

· Provide customer support, including training, for all advanced imaging system products as needed

· Help develop and facilitate training programs for the BSS and AIS team members in your territory to enhance their technical sales skills and product knowledge

· Prepare pricing quotations for laser-based imaging systems in Salesforce

· Maintain a current and accurate weekly sales opportunity forecast in Salesforce

· Maintain knowledge of current applications and how Nikon products relate to customer solutions

· Work with regional sales teams to develop new customer relationships and maintain satisfaction within existing customer network

· Provide feedback to sales management regarding competitive issues, sales success, sales challenges, and pricing

· Work outside of normal hours of operation, as needed, to fulfill essential responsibilities

· Work with product management to improve the marketability of current and future technology

· Recommend improvements and provide feedback on current and future Nikon products

· Develop and maintain an expert knowledge level of all products – particularly laser-based confocal, multiphoton, super resolution, and high content imaging solutions – and how the relate to different customer applications

· Expert level of software knowledge and demonstration skills with NIS Elements – including complex acquisition sequences, macro support/creation, analysis tools, and product integration

· Advanced operating knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as DAQ boards and third-party products


ANCILLARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain proper reporting for expenses and consignment, in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Attend sales meetings, workshops, training events, and seminars, as required
  • Maintain customer database in Salesforce
  • Provide weekly or monthly reports as requested by management or headquarters
  • All other duties as required or needed
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· B.S. in Bioscience or related field

o Ph.D. preferred

· Current, valid driver license

· Current, valid U.S. passport for international travel (Canada)

· Customer service and/or sales experience preferred

o Sales experience in scientific and optical instrumentation highly preferred

· Hands-on experience with microscopy applications preferred

o Knowledge of Nikon-specific Instrumentation and operation highly preferred

· Strong knowledge of microscopy and scientific instruments

o Preference for high-performance imaging applications including confocal and super resolution

· Experience with data manipulation and presentation via MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other tools

o Introductory programming experience a plus

· Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and software

o Experience with NIS-Elements software preferred

· Excellent communication skills – the ability to communicate internally and externally, representing Nikon professionally and effectively to customers and other external sources, is required

· Excellent presentation skills required to lead talks, seminars, and workshops

· Excellent negotiation skills and ability to integrate sales strategy into daily responsibilities

· Mechanical aptitude for instrument assembly and integration

· Ability to train and educate on hardware/software products to a diverse group of individuals

· Ability to lift and carry up to 40bs

· Ability to travel by car, public transportation, or air, overnight included, up to 75% time (varies by territory, project, and activities coordinated with local sales teams and management)

· Ability to routinely access and visit customer sites to evaluate needs, promote products, and service products (up to 90% field work at customer sites)

· Capability to prioritize and multi-task, managing multiple projects of varying magnitudes and velocities

· Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships in a team selling environment and maintain them over time


Compensation depends on a variety of factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, education, and location. The range for this position is $110,000 plus commission.
