The Opportunity as an Excavator Operator


This is a strong opportunity for an experienced equipment operator who wants steady, meaningful field work on roadway, utility, and public infrastructure projects.


In this role, you will be trusted to operate excavators safely and productively on active construction sites across the Atlanta District.


For operators who take pride in precision, teamwork, and getting the work done right, this position offers the chance to contribute to visible, high-impact projects with an established heavy civil contractor.


What You'll Do as an Excavator Operator


  • Operate excavators and similar heavy equipment to dig trenches, cut grade, load and unload trucks, and support pipe installation activities.
  • Excavate for underground utility systems, including water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructure.
  • Support roadway construction, grading, and general site development work on active construction projects.
  • Follow grade stakes, site plans, and direction from field leadership to complete work accurately and efficiently.
  • Work safely around utility crews, other operators, and heavy equipment in active job site conditions.
  • Complete daily equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance checks to keep equipment safe and job-ready.

What Success Looks Like


  • Within the first several months, you are operating safely, productively, and consistently in support of grading, excavation, and utility crews.
  • You complete trenching, grading, and excavation work accurately, with minimal rework and strong attention to site plans and grade requirements.
  • Field leaders can rely on you to work effectively around crews, maintain equipment awareness, and contribute to smooth job site coordination.
  • Daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks are completed consistently, helping reduce downtime and support safe operations.

What We're Looking For


We are seeking an experienced operator with at least one year of heavy equipment operating experience, including excavators, trackhoes, backhoes, or similar equipment.


Candidates should be comfortable working on active construction sites, reading grade stakes or understanding site layout, and performing physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Reliable transportation to job sites within the Atlanta area is required.


Experience in heavy civil, grading, underground utility, or site development work is preferred, and experience with GPS machine control systems is a plus.
