Cooks at UWM perform a variety of food preparation activities and related tasks according to quality and safety standards in dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals. Thisposition works closely with students, student managers, andlimited-termemployees.

Availability/Schedule- Various days, times, and shift options are available including:

  • Monday - Friday: 5:00am - 1:30pm

  • Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm

  • Monday - Friday: 12:00pm - 8:30pm

  • Tuesday - Saturday:11:00am-7:30pm and 9:00am-5:30pm (Saturday)

  • Sunday - Thursday: 11:00am - 7:30pm and 10:00am - 6:30pm (Sunday)

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook-to-order and specialty foods (50%)
  • Train and guide student workers (20%)
  • Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities (10%)
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local safety regulations, policies, and procedures (10%)
  • Cleans, inspects and maintains bakery equipment and work areas to ensure adherence to safe food quality, handling, and sanitation processes and procedures(10%)

$18.00 - $20.00 an hour

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in various food service concepts (Full service, quick service, etc.)

  • At least two years of experience preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic cooking skills: Sauteing, Broiling, Frying, Roasting, Butchery, Garde Manger, Pantry, Breakfast Cookery, etc.

  • Supervisor or Lead worker experience in a food service environment (training, assigning tasks, and scheduling of subordinate staff)

  • Experience cooking food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklists

  • Experience working in higher education, hotel, hospital, or institutional facility

  • Associate's Degree or higher in Culinary Arts or related field

  • ServSafe Sanitation Certification or equivalent
