Typical Qualifications Certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board Valid Illinois Driver's License Over the age of 21 and under the age of 65 A legal citizen of the United States, or legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law, or an individual whose immigration action has been deferred through the DACA process, subject to all requirements and limitations of other applicants and the authorization under federal law to obtain, carry, purchase, and possess a firearm Experience Status as a full-time sworn police officer for a municipal, county, university, or state law enforcement agency for one year after completion of a probationary period or otherwise equaling two years total Must be in good standing in the law enforcement agency in which the person serves, served, or was laid off due to budgetary restraints Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a City of Geneva Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the City Education Possess an associate degree or 60-semester hours of credit from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education Additional Reside within 25 miles of the corporate limits of the City (as measured by straight-line distances), from and after any applicable introductory period. Must successfully complete such examinations as the Fire & Police Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer. including an oral interview, comprehensive background and employment check, and post-offer polygraph, psychological and physical examination and drug screening.
