Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The PT Specialist III, Academic Advising provides advice and information to others. Ensures that System policies and practices surrounding Student Services functions are implemented and carried out correctly by others. Provides academic advising to students as well as operational support within the department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Advises students on appropriate course selection and counsels students on appropriate semester course load and workload
  • Assists students in determining course transferability to state, public, and private institutions
  • Determines proper course of action for student`s conflicts on course scheduling, degree plans and transfer equivalency
  • Provides basic financial aid information for new, transfer and returning students
  • Listens to student concerns and determines if they need referral to other departments
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Proficiency in use of standard office equipment and software applications
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
    • Ability to ensure compliance with due dates/deadlines and regulatory requirements
    • Ability to transfer knowledge to peers, subordinates and higher authorities
    • Ability to work on multiple projects
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Associate's degree
    • Previous experience working in Admissions, Advising, or Financial Aid at a college

    Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60
