Job description


Position Description:
Supports and emanates standards for critical, on-premises and Cloud, business applications and databases, using Cloud native and Oracle builds -- ASM, RAC, and Non-Rac. Executes Linux shell scripting, Python, Perl, Jenkins and writes database monitoring jobs to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot databases. Performs project management functions across projects and supports environment builds, design, capacity planning, cluster setup, performance tuning, and ongoing monitoring. Performs regular maintenance of the on-premises, Cloud, and Cloud native applications for data protection. Configures and maintains engineered systems (Exadata, ZFS, and data virtualizations) using Delphix. Assesses readiness of new systems for conversion, including routine procedures, system administration, recovery and restart scenarios, error procedures, distribution of software releases, distribution of data, and network management.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Modifies existing databases and database management systems, and collaborates with programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Develops methods for integrating different products to ensure they work properly together, including customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
  • Designs and implements complex databases and business critical designs for stability and high availability.
  • Automates recoverability for non-highly available databases.
  • Defines complex database and data warehousing methodologies.
  • Ensures capacity management and performance tuning of assigned databases.
  • Establishes project plans for projects of moderate scope.
  • Implements complex and/or business critical changes.
  • Identifies users and situations that may be hazardous to the system or network.
  • Defines security requirements and operational procedures to ensure compliance with security framework.
  • Identifies environment (operational or application) modifications to improve security.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots storage problems.
  • Assesses and communicates the impact of changes to existing systems.
  • Monitors and reports on the progress of change implementation efforts.
  • Implements security, capacity, monitoring, and database management tools in on-premises systems.
  • Collaborates with vendor and the business unit to derive standards, evaluate functionalities, and remediate software deficiencies.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing Oracle and distributed database administration within the financial services industry.
Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Database Administrator (or closely related occupation) performing Oracle and distributed database administration within the financial services industry.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") planning and implementing database migration practices from on-premise data centers to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud infrastructure and Microsoft Azure, using Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD); and setting up infrastructure on AWS (using CloudFormation (CFT)) and on Azure (using Azure Resource Manager (ARM)).
  • DE deploying and supporting Cloud native databases and multi Cloud Service Providers (CSP) environments; and setting up highly resilient architectures and implementing data protection strategies, monitors, and alerts, using industry standard observability tools -- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), Datadog, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • DE implementing, supporting, monitoring, training on, and troubleshooting advanced Oracle technologies on-premise and in Cloud providers (Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)), and disaster recovery methodologies on highly complex and critical systems including Exadata and Zettabyte File System Appliance (ZFS).
  • DE performing Exadata Database Machine Administration (DBMA) -- providing operating and storage system support by creating Virtual Machines (VMs), using OVM and KVM; performing migration and cloning using CommVault, IntelliSnap and RMAN (traditional/snap) replication, backup, restore, and recovery processes; adhering to Information Technology (IT) controls documentation and standards for product build, training, and validation processes; and refining monitoring configurations for databases, storage, and server administration, using OEM.
