Job description

Solar Field Service Technician - Troubleshoot, Repair, Deliver.
Austin, TX | Full-Time | Hourly, Non-Exempt | Regional Travel
A solar system stops making sense the moment it stops making power. When that call comes in, you're the one who shows up, figures out what's wrong, and fixes it - on the spot.
Freedom Power was born when Freedom Solar and Freedom HVAC joined forces to become Texas's complete whole-house energy company. We don't just install equipment. We hand homeowners the keys to something bigger: control over their energy, their bills, and their future. We call it Energy Empowerment, and it's not a tagline - it's the reason we show up every day.
As a Solar Field Service Technician, you're the technical expert who keeps residential solar, storage, and off-grid systems running the way they're supposed to. You'll respond to dispatch calls, troubleshoot and diagnose issues, climb the roof when the job calls for it, and walk homeowners through exactly what you found and why - building trust one service call at a time.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY
  • Respond to service calls from dispatch on behalf of customers with solar system issues.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Solar, storage, and off-grid systems.
  • Get on roofs when needed to remove, replace, or repair solar panels.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience on every visit.
  • Communicate findings clearly and follow procedures with your manager.
  • Handle paperwork, timekeeping, and inventory processing for every service call.
  • Collect payment for services rendered and identify legitimate upsell opportunities in the field.
  • Complete the job disposition form after every service call.
  • Take on other duties as assigned by the Service Operations Manager.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Prior solar installation experience
  • Valid Apprentice Electrician license (required)
  • OSHA 10 certification (required)
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regionally, frequently
  • Solid knowledge of local electrical codes and residential PV design and components
  • Strong understanding of residential AC (microinverters) and DC (string & optimizer) PV systems
  • Thorough understanding of residential electrical systems and how to work safely around them
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, safely
  • Comfortable learning new technical and diagnostic skills as systems evolve
  • Able to withstand heights, climb ladders, and work outdoors in hot and cold conditions

THE PHYSICAL SIDE
  • Comfortable with light lifting and carrying (under 15 lbs), straight pulling, and simple grasping
  • Able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods
  • Comfortable operating office equipment and motor vehicles, with travel by car up to 10% of the time
  • Able to work independently as well as with others

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 100% Company-Sponsored Short-Term Disability
  • 401(k) Employer Matching
  • Weekly Pay Dates
  • 3 Weeks PTO + 3 Sick Days
  • 12 Paid Holidays + 1 Floating Holiday
  • Real upward mobility - this role is a launchpad, not a ceiling
