The Opportunity
The Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) Lead will
work on site daily from our Lake Forest, IL location in the Infectious Disease Business Unit in Abbott Diagnostics. This position reports to the Head of Value, Access, & Outcomes within the Medical & Scientific Affairs organization.

What You'll Work On
The Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) Lead will lead the development and execution of global HEOR strategies, ensuring effective implementation across markets to support Abbott's Infectious Disease Rapid Diagnostics portfolio. This role is a key leader within the Value, Access, and Outcomes (VAO) organization, responsible for generating compelling economic, clinical, and operational evidence from pipeline and throughout the product lifecycle.
This role partners closely with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and optimize Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) to support reimbursement and funding, policy decision-making, and value communications across the portfolio.
The Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research Lead designs and oversees a comprehensive range of HEOR strategies and tactics, including real-world evidence (RWE) studies, outcomes research, and health economic modeling (e.g., cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses), ensuring robust evidence generation that demonstrates the clinical, economic, and operational value of Abbott's point-of-care rapid diagnostics.
HEOR & Evidence Strategy Leadership
  • Define and lead the global HEOR and RWE strategy aligned with business priorities across pipeline and on-market diagnostic products
  • Ensure early integration of HEOR into product development, clinical strategy, and lifecycle management

Evidence Generation & Execution
  • Leads the design and execution of HEOR evidence generation, including real-world evidence studies, health economic modeling, and outcomes research such as workflow efficiency, healthcare resource utilization, and patient-reported outcomes
  • Integrate clinical and operational outcomes into evidence strategies to demonstrate real-world impact
  • Lead evidence synthesis activities, including systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, and indirect treatment comparisons
  • Evaluate existing evidence generation assets (e.g., economic models) to assess methodological rigor and identify opportunities for enhancement across the product lifecycle
  • Translate model outputs into stakeholder-ready insights, incorporating market feedback to refine analyses, and ensure relevance for access decision-making

Cross-Functional & External Leadership
  • Partner with Market Access, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment of evidence strategy with product objectives
  • Engage external stakeholders, including key opinion leaders, payers, and academic partners, to inform evidence strategies and ensure relevance
  • Lead and collaborate with external vendors to deliver high-quality, evidence-based studies and models

Publications & Scientific Communication
  • Lead HEOR publication strategy, including congress presentations and peer-reviewed manuscripts
  • Ensure timely dissemination of evidence to internal and external stakeholders
  • Translate complex HEOR findings into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional teams

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in health economics or related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a master's degree.
  • Minimum 10 years in HEOR, Market Access, or health policy within pharma, MedTech, consulting, or CRO, with demonstrated success in influencing global payer decision-making
  • Proven leadership in designing, implementing, and publishing HEOR/RWE studies and economic models that shaped reimbursement or access outcomes
  • Deep understanding of HTA processes, payer evidence requirements, and healthcare financing systems globally (US, EU, and beyond)
  • Strong record of external engagement (HTA, payer advisory boards, academic partnerships, scientific congresses)
  • Experience leading cross-functional and international projects • Excellent communication and influencing skills with senior internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD with strong focus in Health Economics or similar.
  • At least 10 years of experience in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, or point-of-care diagnostics, with strong knowledge of the healthcare industry
  • Diagnostics and/or medical device experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in health economic modeling, scientific analytics, and evidence generation
  • Results-oriented with excellent project management and organization
  • Experience working globally across diverse markets
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to influence in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Intellectual agility and ability to navigate ambiguity
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity
  • Infectious Diseases experience
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications
