Evidence Officer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Evidence Officer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Evidence Officer, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in law enforcement or legal studies, often supported by relevant certifications or training in evidence handling. Familiarity with evidence management systems, chain-of-custody protocols, and digital documentation tools is essential. Integrity, discretion, and effective communication are critical soft skills for maintaining trust and ensuring proper handling of sensitive materials. These skills and qualities ensure the security, accuracy, and legal admissibility of evidence, which are crucial for supporting investigations and judicial processes.

What are Evidence Officers?

Evidence Officers are professionals responsible for managing, securing, and maintaining the integrity of evidence collected during criminal investigations. Their duties include documenting, storing, and tracking evidence to ensure it is admissible in court and not tampered with. They work closely with law enforcement officers, forensic teams, and legal professionals to follow strict procedures and chain-of-custody protocols. This role is essential for supporting investigations and upholding justice by preserving the quality and reliability of evidence.

What is the difference between Evidence Officer vs Forensic Technician?

AspectEvidence OfficerForensic Technician
Required CredentialsTypically requires a degree in criminal justice, forensic science, or related field; certifications may include evidence handling or forensic certificationsRequires a degree or diploma in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or related fields; certifications in lab techniques or forensic analysis are common
Work EnvironmentWorks in law enforcement agencies, courts, or crime labs, handling evidence collection and managementWorks primarily in forensic laboratories, analyzing physical evidence from crime scenes
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by law enforcement agencies, crime labs, and judicial systemsEmployed in forensic laboratories, research institutions, and law enforcement support units

While both Evidence Officers and Forensic Technicians work within the criminal justice system, Evidence Officers focus on evidence collection, preservation, and chain of custody, often at crime scenes. Forensic Technicians primarily analyze physical evidence in labs to support investigations. Both roles require relevant scientific or criminal justice credentials and are essential in the forensic process.

How does an Evidence Officer typically collaborate with law enforcement and legal teams during investigations?

Evidence Officers play a crucial role in ensuring that physical and digital evidence is properly collected, stored, and documented. They frequently work alongside law enforcement officers, forensic specialists, and legal teams to maintain the integrity of evidence chains and ensure all procedures comply with legal standards. Regular communication, clear record-keeping, and attention to detail are essential, as errors can compromise investigations or court proceedings. This collaborative environment helps ensure that cases progress smoothly and that evidence is admissible and reliable.

The Company
Dexcom Corporation (NASDAQ DXCM) is a pioneer and global leader in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Dexcom began as a small company with a big dream: To forever change how diabetes is managed. To unlock information and insights that drive better health outcomes. Here we are 25 years later, having pioneered an industry. And we're just getting started. We are driven by thousands of ambitious, passionate people worldwide who are willing to fight like warriors to earn the trust of our customers by listening, serving with integrity, thinking big, and being dependable. We've already changed millions of lives and we're ready to change millions more. Our future ambition is to become a leading consumer health technology company while continuing to develop solutions for serious health conditions. The opportunity to improve health on a global scale stands before us.
Role Summary:
The SVP, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is Dexcom's senior-most medical leader and the CEO's primary advisor on clinical strategy, medical credibility, and evidence priorities. The CMO is accountable for enterprise medical strategy, clinical evidence generation, HEOR and real-world evidence, and medical governance across Dexcom's portfolio in diabetes and metabolic health.
The CMO leads Clinical Affairs and Medical Affairs, with VP-level leaders of each function reporting into the role. The CMO partners closely with Operations & Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Product, Commercial, and Market Access to ensure strong governance, post-market oversight, and consistent, evidence-based medical positioning.
Where you come in:
  • Set enterprise medical strategy for Dexcom across diabetes, with strong Type 2 credibility and a clear metabolic health narrative.
  • Own the evidence roadmap and ensure the right mix of clinical studies and real-world evidence supports adoption, guidelines, and growth.
  • Lead HEOR and RWE efforts, producing payer-ready evidence and reimbursement support in tight partnership with Commercial Market Access.
  • Oversee global Medical Affairs including KOL strategy, scientific communications, publications, congress presence, and medical education.
  • Chair medical governance and safety oversight for benefit-risk decisions, post-market clinical surveillance input, and medically grounded field actions in partnership with Operations, Quality, and Regulatory.
  • Guide portfolio expansion and access pathways including pharmacy and consumer routes where applicable, with evidence-based positioning and appropriate-use guardrails.
  • Enable global growth by ensuring medical strategy, evidence, and narratives translate across regions, health systems, and reimbursement environments.

What success looks like:
  • A CEO-aligned medical strategy that is clearly anchored in diabetes, with strong Type 2 credibility and a coherent metabolic health narrative.
  • A funded evidence roadmap that strengthens differentiation, supports guidelines and access, and enables expansion in Type 2 segments.
  • A high-performing HEOR and RWE partnership with Market Access that accelerates coverage expansion and improves credibility of payer narratives.
  • Strong medical governance and post-market readiness with clear, timely cross-functional decision-making.
  • Increased external credibility through stronger KOL impact, consistent high-trust communications, and higher-quality scientific output.

Required Qualifications:
  • MD required; board certification strongly preferred.
  • Significant executive leadership in diabetes care or related therapeutic areas, including meaningful exposure to Type 2 diabetes populations and care pathways.
  • 15+ years progressive leadership in Clinical Affairs and/or Medical Affairs within regulated medtech, digital health-enabled devices, or closely related environments.
  • Demonstrated success building integrated evidence strategies including real-world evidence and HEOR, with examples of influencing adoption, access, and standard-of-care narratives.
  • Executive presence and ability to partner effectively with CEO and ELT and cross-functional leaders across Market Access, Operations & Quality, Regulatory, Product, and Commercial in a publicly traded environment.

Preferred Experience:
  • Metabolic health experience beyond diabetes, including consumer engagement and behavior change programs.
  • Health and wellness exposure, particularly if paired with strong medical governance and appropriate-use discipline.
  • Global medical affairs experience supporting international access expansion.
