Job Summary

Prepares and serves nutritious meals according to established menus and physician-ordered diets. Monitors food handling, preparation, meal service, and sanitation practices to ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are met and maintained.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals according to physician-ordered diets and facility menus

  • Follow established menus and ensure proper substitutions are documented

  • Honor resident special requests within prescribed diet orders

  • Ensure all food is prepared and served safely and hygienically

  • Follow cleaning schedules as directed by the Food Service Manager

  • Properly label, date, and store all leftover food

  • Report menu changes, supply needs, or equipment issues

  • Report unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment immediately

  • Assist dietary aides and dishwashers as needed

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

  • Attend required in-service training sessions

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Must be of legal working age

  • High school diploma or GED required (experience may substitute)

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and diet orders

  • Strong communication skills in English

  • Ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff

  • Knowledge of long-term care regulations preferred

  • Food Protection Manager certification required or willingness to obtain

  • Food handler certification required within 30 days of hire

  • At least 1 year of institutional cooking experience preferred

  • Must be willing to work overtime when needed

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs

  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs

  • Ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs

  • Frequent standing, bending, and stooping

  • Ability to reach above shoulder level

  • Exposure to varying kitchen temperatures and conditions

  • Ability to handle physical and occasional high-stress situations
