Position Summary

The Event Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervision and direction of event setup and housekeeping staff teams and temporary labor employees in their duties of general building cleaning, as well as event room/hall set-ups and breakdowns as required for the Miami Beach Convention Center campus and associated exterior parcels (Collins Canal Park, Venu & Rum Room).

This role pays an hourly rate of $20.00-$22.00

About the Venue

The award-winning Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) welcomes meeting and event planners, exhibitors, and attendees to Miami Beach and Miami. Reimagined following a $640-million-dollar renovation, the MBCC provides a world-class, state-of-the-art event venue for exceptional conferences, conventions, tradeshows, and meetings. The new 800-room, connected Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is under development and slated to open in late 2027.  

A LEED Silver certified green building, the venue includes a magnificent Grand Ballroom, 500,000 square feet of flexible exhibition halls, 4 junior ballrooms, outdoor terraces & parks, 84 breakout rooms, and an onsite parking garage with 800 parking spots, including disabled, accessible, and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging spaces, as well as bike racks. The MBCC's immediate proximity to lively South Beach, Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, and many other Miami Beach cultural arts attractions make it an ideal venue for your next event.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Event Operations

  • Supervises and assists housekeeping utility team members and temporary labor workers in the general cleaning of the venue, the MBCC campus, and its equipment/inventory.
  • Supervises and assists setup utility team members and temporary labor workers in the setup of tables, chairs, risers, stages, and other associated equipment required for all meeting rooms, exhibition halls, pre-function/lobby, and/or MBCC campus spaces.
  • Works with the Events leadership team in the development of daily work task sheets and ensures that these tasks are completed in a first-class and efficient manner.
  • Plan and execute daily production logistics from move-in, show days, and move-out.
  • Conduct routine inspections of event setups, housekeeping activities, and venue readiness to ensure work is completed in accordance with event specifications, facility standards, and operational expectations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Trains and effectively communicates with team members regarding responsibilities and expectations.
  • Advise and provide recommendations regarding team members' qualifications.
  • Works with team members to develop and maintain a service-oriented attitude.
  • Assist with team member training, scheduling, inventory controls, and external vendor relations.

Event Planning & Client Support

  • Assists in the adjustment of floor plans with Event Managers, General Service Contractors, AV Partners, and Internal Team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal departments and clients.
  • Ability to read event resumes and venue drawings to set leased space.

Facility Operations, Safety & Quality Assurance

  • Works in conjunction with the Public Safety and Venue Operations departments to ensure that comprehensive energy conservation and safety programs are adhered to in the daily operation of the building.
  • Understand, inspect, and maintain protocol for all surfaces (terrazzo, carpet, concrete, wood) throughout the interior and exterior of the MBCC and its campus.
  • Understand and maintain safety protocol for all equipment during setup and breakdown.
  • Inspect the overall venue and advise the appropriate departments of equipment and/or facility damages.
  • Advise and ensure team members are following protocols, safety requirements, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain the integrity of equipment, equipment cleaning, and venue surfaces.

Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Ability to write daily post notes for the following shift.
  • Completes daily housekeeping/setup service logs for billable and non-billable activities and submits daily logs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises a team of full-time, part-time, and temporary labor workers.\
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with OVG policies, MBCC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the MBCC Code of Conduct, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Responsibilities include participating in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, scheduling, assigning, and directing the work of team members.
  • Monitoring productivity and operational performance.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and recognizing and rewarding performance.
  • Addressing performance concerns and disciplinary matters in partnership with People & Culture.
  • Fostering a safe, service-oriented, inclusive, and high-performing team environment while consistently demonstrating the highest ethical standards and leading by example.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Facility Management, Business Administration, Event Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience in a convention center, stadium, arena, hotel, public assembly facility, or other high-volume event venue.
  • Demonstrated experience leading housekeeping, event setup, or venue operations teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience coordinating multiple concurrent events while maintaining operational efficiency, safety, and service standards.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of venue housekeeping standards and practices, public assembly venue setup requirements, and event space operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret event resumes, floor plans, and venue drawings.
  • Experience scheduling labor resources and coordinating temporary labor to support event operations is preferred.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a dynamic event environment.

  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours and remain available seven (7) days per week as operational needs require.

Technology Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to utilize computer systems, mobile devices, and standard office technology to complete daily work assignments, scheduling, reporting, and communication.
  • Experience with event management, work order, scheduling, or facility management software is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification, First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, and Forklift Operator Certification are preferred.
  • IAVM Crowd Management certification or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable period following hire is highly desirable.
