The Opportunity:
MEMA is seeking an Events Intern to support our events team and gain hands on experience supporting a wide range of association events, meetings, and member activities.
The Events Intern will support the planning and execution of member-facing events and activities for the automotive aftermarket and original equipment supplier community. This role provides hands-on experience across event operations, and member engagement.
Location, Internship Duration, and Hours: This internship is a hybrid role based in Southfield, Michigan or surrounding areas. The internship is expected to run from June through December 2026 and will average approximately 37.5 hours per week during the summer, with flexibility to work reduced hours in the fall upon the start of the academic year. Successful interns may be considered for future full time opportunities.
What You'll Do:
  • Event Planning & Execution:
    • Assist in preparing and delivering events and meetings that connect members, including coordinating speaker and sponsor logistics, supporting event registration and promotion, engaging with members, and assisting with on-site execution to ensure a high-quality experience.
  • Conference Center & Guest Experience
    • Support the day-to-day management of MEMA's conference center and help create a welcoming, professional environment for members and guests.
    • This includes preparing meeting spaces, coordinating room setups, managing supplies, assisting with catering, welcoming attendees, and ensuring all event details are executed smoothly on-site.
  • Data & Database Support:
    • Partner with membership, marketing, and IT teams to maintain and improve database accuracy. Assist with reporting, data updates, and basic analysis to support member engagement.
  • Attendee Recruitment & Industry Engagement:
    • Research and connect with prospective attendees, members, and industry professionals to support event participation and council engagement. Gain exposure to key companies and leaders shaping the automotive supplier industry.
  • Research & Process Improvement:
    • Use research and data analysis to identify trends and support new ideas, process improvements, and innovations that enhance event experiences and effectiveness.

What You'll Bring:
  • Current college student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, business, event management, or a related field.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills ,and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and contribute as part of a collaborative team.
  • Interest in or desire to pursue a career in event planning or the automotive industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, familiarity with PC-based audio-visual equipment is a plus.
